    KLM Cityhopper Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Amsterdam

    KLM Cityhopper flight KL-1209 made an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on June 20th.

    The Embraer ERJ-175 plane took off for Kristiansand, Norway, but had to turn back after the crew noticed engine vibrations.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Cessna Nails Emergency Landing on Florida Highway

    What: single engine C172 en route from Gainesville to Destin
    Where: U.S. Highway 98
    When: Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, 8 pm
    Who: Pilot Michael Dustin Phillips
    Why: While en route, the engine began running rough. The pilot diverted to Tallahassee, but did not reach the airport. The pilot had to make an emergency landing on the highway due to a “mechanical failure” using car headlights to orient the landing. The plane model is described as “172, P172, R172, Skyhawk, Hawk XP, Cutla”

    UltraLight Takes a Spin on the Ferris Wheel

    What: Superlight Cheetah S200 glider
    Where: Canberra New South Wales
    When: October 1
    Who: 2 aboard.
    Why: During the annual three-day festival in Old Bar, a glider crashed into a ferris wheel. (What are the odds of that?) A nine year old and a thirteen year old were trapped, as well as the pilot (Paul Cox) and passenger of the downed plane. The pilot was disoriented in low visibility. The children were stuck for an hour; the pilot and passenger for three hours. No one had serious injuries.

    Labcorps Pilatus Crash in Softball Field


    On Jan 16, 2013, a LabCorp Pilatus PC 12/45 was en route from Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport to Morristown NJ when the place crashed. After taking off from Burlington and experiencing problems, the pilot tried avoiding a residential area. The crash near the North Park Community Center occurred around 6:00 a.m. about five miles from the airport. Witnesses report the pilot either circled (or spun) to crash on the softball field. About 400 gallons of fuel spilled.

    Fifty emergency responders arrived on the scene.

    57-year-old David Gamble of Greensboro died in the crash. He was a LabCorp employee delivering inter-office mail. He was the pilot, the only one aboard, and an employee of LabCorp. The plane is registered as property of Regions Equipment Finance Corp.

    The NTSB was on the scene by 4:30 pm.

    Qantas Airways Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Melbourne

    Qantas Airways flight QF-495 made an emergency landing in Melbourne, Australia, on April 7th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Sydney, Australia, was on approach to Melbourne when the crew reported an unsafe gear indication.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Green Bay-DC-9 Emergency Landing

    What: Delta Airlines DC-9 en route from Detroit to Minneapolis
    Where: Ashwaubenon
    When: May 21, 2011
    Who: 81 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: The plane was en route when the pilot smelled smoke from burning plastic in the cabin, and announced to passengers they would be diverting to Green Bay with rescue services from De Pere, Allouez, Ashwaubenon, Hobart and Howard on standby.

    They made a safe landing in Green Bay at Austin Straubel International Airport at 2:25 pm
