San Francisco-Bound JetBlue Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Grand Rapids
JetBlue flight B6-915 had to divert for an emergency landing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on May 30th.The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, to San Francisco, California, was diverted after a lithium battery inside a passenger’s laptop caught fire.
The plane landed safely. All 158 people aboard remained unharmed.

Horizon Air Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Portland
Horizon Air flight QX-2150 made an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, on August 2nd.The crew requested emergency services after the plane blew a tire on takeoff from Reno, Nevada.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained uninjured.

Why: While taking off from Kathmandu, the engine developed problems. THe crew shut it down and returned within minutes to land at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.Another source says the flight circled for an hour to burn fuel to lighten the landing.
Passengers were provided accommodations. Etihad engineers from Abu Dhabi arrived to handle the problem on January 21.

Why: When the plane experienced engine failure, the flight ditched in the Carribean. The pilot, Robert Marcel, was knocked unconscious on impact.Passengers were rescued by boat. The unconscious captain could not be freed from his seat harness and the plane sank with him aboard.

PenAir Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Failure
PenAir flight KS-2925 had to return and make an emergency landing in Sand Point, Alaska, on November 7th.The plane took off for Anchorage, Alaska, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Who: 4 people, (3 crewmembers) and a woman working on the ground at the school perimeter, have been airlifted to local hospitals. The captain is critical, the other 3 with serious injuries.
Why: The plane had smoke coming from its engines, lost height after takeoff.The crew called Mayday and reported engine loss and smoke. They attempted an emergency landing in the field in front of a school and impacted the fence surrounding the school.
Preliminary examination apparently shows the hand engine was operating under full power and the left engine failed.

The fact that anyone at all survived this indicates that the emergency landing was a success.
However, maintenance is suspect.
