What: American Eagle Canadair CRJ-700 en route from Washington National to Chicago
Where: Washington
When: Aug 22nd 2011
Why: After takeoff, smoke was observed coming from the right engine, and a fuel leak was observed from the right wing.
The crew diverted to Washington International and made a safe landing.
A Delta airlines flight had to make an emergency landing at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut, on January 20.
The plane took off for Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Kentucky, but had to return shortly afterwards after its landing gear failed to close.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained unhurt.

What: JAT Airways Boeing 737-300 en route from Istanbul Ataturk to Belgrade
Where: Sofia
When: Dec 20th 2009
Who: 56 passengers
Why: While en route, the right engine developed vibration. It is not noted whether or not the engine was shut down, but the flight diverted successfully to Sofia and made an emergency landing.
There’s no indication what accommodations were made for passengers.
Qantas flight QF-9554 had to return and make an emergency landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on July 29th.
The plane took off for Chicago, Illinois, but shredded some tires during departure.
The plane subsequently landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
FedEx Federal Express flight FX-684 had to return and make an emergency landing in Rochester, New York, on October 21st.
The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Memphis, Tennessee, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a suspected flaps issue.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 2 crew members aboard at the time; both of them remained safe.

What: Colgan Air Saab 340B (US Airways) en route from New York La Guardia to Manchester New Hampshire
Where: Manchester
When: Aug 12th 2009
Who: 19 passengers and 3 crew
Why: On takeoff from New York, the right main gear tire was damaged. The flight continued on schedule and landed safely on a tire without tread.
A single-engine plane crashed in a wooded area about 3 miles northwest of Ranger in rural Central Texas around midnight on August 16.
The accident happened after the small plane took off from Cook Canyon Ranch Airport near Ranger with a 3-member family aboard.
All 3 people lost their lives in the crash. Fred Biddle with the Texas Department of Public Safety identified the victims as John C. Weaver of Granbury, his wife, Debra S. Weaver and their daughter, Courtney A. Weaver from Plano.
Lunsford also said that the National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
