    Air France Flight Diverts to Salt Lake City Due to Bomb Threat

    Air FranceAir France flight AF065 made an emergency landing in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 17.

    Authorities said the flight, en-route from Los Angeles to Paris, was diverted due to a bomb threat.

    The plane landed safely. None of the 497 passengers and crew members were harmed.

    The airline said, “Local authorities are carrying out complete inspections of the aircraft, the passengers and their luggage. An investigation will be led by the authorities to identify the source of the telephone call.”

    Istanbul-Bound Air Canada Flight Makes Unscheduled Landing at Heathrow

    Air CanadaAir Canada flight AC 810, from Toronto to Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, made an unscheduled landing at London Heathrow Airport, at 5:38 a.m. local time on August 23.

    According to the Air Canada spokesperson Isabelle Arthur, the plane was diverted as a precaution after the crew reported an ‘oil indication’. However, she did not provide details.

    Emergency services were put on alert as the plane safely touched the runway at London Heathrow. All passengers and crew members remained unhurt.

    The passengers were booked on other flights while the plane was temporarily grounded for inspection.

    Dreamliner Test Emergency Landing

    What: Boeing 787 Dreamliner test flight

    Who: 42 person crew on board
    Why: Boeing is performing flight tests with Rolls-Royce and with General Electric engines.

    During the test flight, the pilots made an emergency landing. This was sue to smoke in the cabin attributed to electrical problems in the aft electronics bay; and this disabled the primary flight displays in the cockpit.

    The crew disembarked via slides on to the runway with one injury.

    Honduran President Makes Unanticipated Landing

    What: West Wind
    Where: Palmerola US military base
    When: September 06 2010
    Who: Honduran President Porfirio Lobo
    Why: The plane called “West Wind” made an unplanned landing at the US military base in Palmerola (Soto Cano air base in Comayagua) when it developed technical problems at 8000 feet. An indicator light that flashed on board the West Wind jet that instigated the decision to land.

    Lobo was flying to New Orleans to sign scholarship agreements to support the 50 best students from low-income families who graduate from high school will be sent on scholarship to good U.S. universities.

    The plane is being checked out and the President may continue on a different plane.

    Canary Island Threat

    On December 13, 2013, a Norwegian Air Shuttle Boeing 737-8JP in Las Palmas Airport, Gran Canaria had boarded. The Danish captain announced over the intercom that “we have become bombhotade and must vacate the planet directly,”

    The airline’s staff who received the message prior to departure. After the threat was placed against the plane, it was evacuated and searched, as were the passengers. The announcement came when they were already on the runway.

    Passengers were admitted into the terminal. Baggage and the plane were examined.

    No bomb was found.

    The plane was rebounded at 20:40 and went on its way from Las Palmas Airport to Stockholm without further delay.

    Spanair Airbus Landing Gear Glitch

    What: Spanair Airbus A321-200 en route from Palma to Brest to Deuville.
    Where: Brest
    When: Apr 28th 2010
    Who: 157 passengers
    Why: On approach, the flight developed a technical problem with the landing gear. The problem delayed landing by half an hour, but eventually the plane did land safely, although it did have to be towed to the gate. An alternative jet was flown in eight hours later for the final leg of the flight.
