Why: The Mooney M2OE crashed on the west side of Rio Linda Airport . On crashing on the speedway, the plane caught fire. The plane’s owner, Dave Michaud, was an on-call reserve deputy, formerly a C-5 Flight Engineer in the 301st Airlift Squadron at Travis.

A small plane crashed into a home near Half Moon Bay Airport in Moss Beach, California, on November 18th.
The single engine Cessna 172 plane, carrying two people, took off from Sacramento and was heading to the Bay Area when it went down.
The passenger was killed in the crash while the pilot sustained serious injuries.

Plane Crash in Brazil Kills 5
A single-engine Embraer-720C plane crashed into a house in Balsas, Maranhao state, in northeastern Brazil, at about 6:19 a.m. on August 3.
The plane was transporting an elderly sick lady and her relatives to a hospital when it crashed.
All five people aboard the plane were killed. The victims included the pilot, Delano Martins Coelho, 36, his fiancée and nurse, Lorena Alves de Lima, 22, an 87 year old sick lady Maria de Jesus Cruz e Silva who was being shifted from a hospital in Balsas to another in Piaui, her daughter, Francisca Pereira e Silva and one of her grandsons, Alan Patrick Silva Setulvedo.
The house hit by the plane was occupied by three people. However, none of them was hurt.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
Parachuters Perish in Skydiving Training Tragedy

Who: 5 aboard
Why: A pilot, a skydiving instructor and three parachutists went up for a parachuting lesson. The plane they were in crashed right after takeoff. Those aboard the flight were Nemanja Goronja, Alen Crnalic, Stefan Karanovic, Nikola Stevic and Srdan Kosic.
Witnesses attempted to use fire extinguishers, but apparently a number of them failed to operate correctly.
Among the five victims was an eighteen year old parachutist who was aboard for his first jump. The tragic wreck occurred in front of horrified onlookers there to witness the skydiving. Firefighters, ambulance crews, and Gojko Vasic, the RS Police Director Nedeljko Lubura from Banja Luka PSC were on the scene. The parachutists were members of the Club Banjaluka.
The accident is under investigation.
Indiana Pilot Crashes in Corn Field

Why: Around 8:15 witnesses heard the plane flying low. It crashed in a corn field south East County Road 400, near Henry Road two miles from the airport Weather at the time was rainy. The pilot was killed in the crash.
Antonov Overshoots Runway in Rough Weather

Why: On approach to Blagoveshchensk airport, the plane encountered rough weather and overshot the runway.
The plane encountered wind shear on approach, injuring ten passengers. The plane lost a wing in the landing, and the fuselage was damaged, coming to rest 200 meters from the runway. Three children were aboard.
A passenger said (loosely quoted) “We were sitting closer to the wing. As soon as the plane touched the ground, it started to shake. Panic among the passengers, nobody knew what was happening. I heard children crying. When the plane finally stopped, I breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God, still alive!”
Blackburn Canyon Cessna Crash, Tehachapi Wildfire

Where: Blackburn Canyon, Tehachapi, California
When: Sept 4, 2011
Who: 2 aboard, 2 fatalities
Why: A Cessna that crashed in Blackburn Canyon, Tehachapi, California killed both people aboard the flight and ignited a fire that caused the evacuation of hundreds of homes south of Bakersfield. Two were confirmed dead in the crash, and it has not (yet) been confirmed if there were more than 2 aboard.
As of Monday, the number of evacuations had grown from 100 to 650 to about 1,500 homes homes. The threatened area was the mountains around the crash and a seven square mile burn area, all threatened by a raging forest fire. Firefighters concentrated on creating a fire-break.
A DC-10 water tanker has been part of the firefighting team, including 600 firefighters and more than a dozen aircraft.
Tehachapi, with a population of 8,000, has some renown as an area with wind farms. Smaller fires spread to San Bernardino National Forest and rural areas of San Bernardino County.
The fire has been 95% contained.
