British Airways flight BA-114 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada, on April 29th.
The Boeing 777-200, en-route to London, England, from New York, was mid-air when the crew detected burning odor in the cabin, prompting the plane to divert as a precaution.
The plane landed uneventfully.
All passengers onboard remained unharmed.
American Airlines flight AA-235 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Norfolk, Virginia, on September 4th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, to Miami, Florida, was diverted due to an electrical odor on-board.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and ninety-two people aboard remained unharmed.
Expressjet flight EV-4296 made an emergency landing in Wichita, Kansas, on June 20th.
The plane, flying from Houston, Texas, declared an emergency due to smoke in the cockpit.
The plane landed uneventfully. There were 52 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
What: United Airlines/Skywest Canadair CRJ-700
Where: Tucson

Why: On takeoff, the cabin filled with electrical smoke. The odor prompted the crew to make a return to Tucson.
They made a safe landing with no reported injuries. The cause of the problem has not been reported.
Air France flight AF054 had to make an emergency landing at Trudeau Airport in Montreal, Canada, at around 4 p.m. on January 1, 2014.
The flight, en-route from Paris to Washington D.C., was diverted after smoke was detected in the business class cabin.
The Boeing 777-300, carrying 152 passengers and 17 crew members, landed safely and no one aboard was harmed.
The airline confirmed the incident saying that the emergency landing was due to a “minor technical problem”.
The plane was later able to resume the flight.
Austrian Airlines flight OS-64 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Domodedovo International Airport in Moscow, Russia, on August 22nd.
The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Beijing, China, to Vienna, Austria, was diverted after the crew received a waste tank indication that suggested the lavatories were unusable.
The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

What: Continental Airlines Boeing 757-200 en route from Dublin to Newark

Why: After takeoff, the transatlantic flight developed a pressurization problem; and after burning off fuel, on return to Dublin, the flight ran into wind shear (strong crosswinds) resulting in a couple of go-arounds. They were back on the ground about 2 hours after takeoff. The flight was not cancelled until the 19th, and by that time, most passengers had already rebooked. Some passengers aboard that flight have expressed dissatisfaction in their situation, although hotel accommodations were provided.
The Irish equivalent of the NTSB (AAIU) said the problems were due to a failed Pressure Regulating and Shut Off valve in the right engine’s bleed air system.
