    12 year old aboard a Light Single-engine four-seater sport Plane Crashed in Russia

    What: Ilyushin Il-103
    Where: Alekanovo, Ryazan Russia
    When: July 22, 2012
    Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities
    Why: Although initially reported as two fatalities, there were three in the crash of the Ilyushin Il-103 in a forested area in the Ryazan region of Russia. The local fire brigade responded.

    The plane belonged to businessman Vladimir Kondrakova and was piloted by a test pilot, Vladimir Lubin.

    One of those aboard was the 12 year old son of a passenger.

    Witnesses said “the crash occurred because the flight had taken too strong a turn, causing the airplane to go into a tailspin and crash vertically into the ground.”

    The Regional Ministry for emergency is apparently not investigating because the plane was not certified.

    4 Survive Antonov Crash offshore Gabon, Africa

    What: DHL Aviation (leased from Solenta Aviation) Antonov 26
    Where: 2.3 km S of Libreville Airport, Gabon
    When: 06 JUN 2011
    Who: 2 crew 2 passengers
    Why: The flight had permission to land when it began experiencing a hydraulic problem, and was flying with difficulty when it crashed into the sea near Libreville Airport. (Although reported as a hydraulics issue, both propellors had stopped according to witnesses, so it may have been a fuel issue. )

    One passenger from Gabon and one Bulgarian passenger were on board. The two member crew was Ukranian.

    The flight ditched in shallow water and the plane is still visible above the water line.

    Gabon has banned Antonov 26 flights in its airspace until further notice

    Mahan Air Plane Skids Off Runway, Crashes into Concrete Barrier at Istanbul Airport

    mahanA Mahan Air plane crashed into a concrete barrier at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Turkey, on December 24.

    The Airbus A310 plane, performing flight W5-112 from Tehran, Iran, skidded off the runway and crashed into a concrete barrier.

    There were 150 passengers aboard at the time; all of them were evacuated safely.

    The cause of crash is under investigation.

    Pine Bluff Arkansas Takes In American Airlines Emergency Landing

    What: American Airlines twin-engine MD 80 en route from Dallas to Washington
    Where: Little Rock Arkansas
    When: May 15 2011 4:08
    Who: 136 passengers 5 crew
    Why: While en route, the pilot declared an emergency due to an engine fire, then diverted to make a safe landing in Little Rock Arkansas. Passengers were provided access to alternative flights to Washington.

    LATAM Airlines Flight Rejects Take Off From Sao Paulo

    LATAM Airlines flight JJ-3264 had to reject take off from Sao Paulo, Brazil, on February 22nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane was accelerating to take off for Belo Horizonte, Brazil, when the crew rejected take off reporting an engine fire indication.

    The plane was towed to the apron. All 131 passengers and 6 crew members remained uninjured.

    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Detroit Due to Engine Fire Indication

    Delta Airlines flight DL-950 had to return and make an emergency landing in Detroit, Michigan, on August 6th.

    The Airbus A319-100 plane took off for LaGuardia Airport, New York, but had to turn back due to an engine fire indication.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and thirty-two people aboard remained unharmed.
