    Sikorsky Down off Norfolk, Va Beach


    A US Navy Sikorsky MH-53E Sea Dragon crashed off a Norfolk Virginia beach, killing one of five aboard. The helicopter was assigned to Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron Fourteen.

    Three were injured and hospitalized at at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A rescue team is searching for one crewman who is still missing.

    Nazca Airlines Cessna Crash Kills 7 in Peru

    What: Nazca Airlines Cessna U206F tourist flight en route from/to Nazca Airport
    Where: El Mirador in the coastal Nazca Desert, Peru
    When: Feb 25 2010
    Who: Four Peruvians, one of whom was a boy, and one who was the pilot, and three Chileans.
    Why: While on a tourist flight to view ancient geoglyphs known as the Nazca Lines, the plane crashed. The wreckage is about 150 yards (meters) from a figure known as “the spider”.

    In November 2008, the same plane was involved in an emergency landing near kilómetro 424 de la carretera Panamericana Sur (South Pan-American highway). At that time, the problems was ascribed to engine trouble.

    The Peruvian passengers were identified as Sameli Chavarry, Erika del Pilar Zúñiga, John Rojas Rodríguez and Dayesca Rojas Zuñira; the Chileans were Matías Poblete, Gabriela Ortega Poblete and Alejandra Cienfuegos.

    17 Soldiers Killed after Military Helicopter Crashes in Colombia

    A military helicopter crashed near the town of Pensilvania in Caldas Department of Colombia, on June 26th.

    The helicopter went down while it was travelling from Quibdo city to the military base at Tolemaida.

    Seventeen soldiers were killed in the crash. According to President Juan Manuel Santos, “The soldiers were in the region of Uraba on a reconnaissance flight, many of them were experts in drone aircraft, others were supporting military operations against the National Liberation Army guerrillas.”

    It is believed that the accident happened due to poor weather conditions.

    Crop Duster Plane Crashes in Colorado; Pilot Killed

    A crop duster plane crashed in the San Luis Valley, near Alamosa, Colorado, on August 19th.

    The plane hit the fields of barley and afterwards it burst into flames.

    The pilot lost his life at the scene.

    The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

    Where: 2276 Freedom Boulevard, Watsonville, CA
    When: Nov 21, 2009
    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: On approach to the Watsonville Municipal Airport, the plane’s engine was on fire. ATC lost contact with the pilot.

    The wreckage was found on the apple orchard property at 2276 Freedom Boulevard, Watsonville, CA.

    LATAM Argentina Flight Makes Safe Landing After Hail Strike

    LATAM Airlines Argentina flight 4M-7570 made a safe landing after encountering hail near Las Termas Airport, Argentina, on August 29th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane flying from Buenos Aires, Argentina, was descending toward Las Termas Airport when it encountered a hail storm.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained safe.
