The engine was shut down. Pilots landed safely in Hamburg.
Passenger booked on the return flight were provided an alternative flight.

Why: Although there were problems presented to ATC in advance, on landing in Munich, the Singapore Airlines Boeing suffered a runway excursion, when it veered right on landing. Landing occurred with reduced visibility and low cloud cover. All three gear were off the runway when the plane stopped. Passengers evacuated with no injuries via stairs brought to the jet.The three year old jet has General Electric GE90 engines and appears to have suffered no obvious damage.
US Airways Diverts to Gander

Why: After taking off from Dublin, one of the engines developed a situation not unlike a stuck carburetor.Pilots troubleshooted (troubleshot?) the problem but then shut down the engine and diverted to diverted to Gander, where they made a safe landing.
The mechanical repair was performed. (The issue was mechanical, not digital.) Meanwhile, a replacement flight was provided to transport the passengers to Charlotte.
