Why: Scott Pigsley was returning from searching for a woman when his plane struck geese. At the time, he knew something had happened, but wasn’t sure what it was until after he landed and saw the damage to the single engine Cessna he was flying. Why: The Cessna experienced a loss of power on takeoff from Pedro J. Mendez Airport, Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. When the pilot attempted to return to the airport, the Cessna impacted level desert terrain 45 degrees off to the right of the side of the departure end of the runway.The pilot and the 4 passengers were fatally injured.

Parachute Flight Comes to Quick Halt
On Jan 14, 2013, six people—pilot Marcelo Rodríguez, two instructors and three parachutists—were aboard a Cessna 205 during a parachute flight in Punta el Este, Uraguay.When the engine lost power, the pilot made a forced landing and flipped. No fatalities were reported. The injured include Uruguayans, two Argentine women and one other. The injured were treated on the scene by mobile emergency units and then transferred to medical centers in Maldonado and Punta del Este.
Two Planes Collide; Six are Shaken but Survive

Where: in the sagebrush and scrub oak at the foot of the towering Grand Mesa about 10 miles south of the Grand Junction Regional Airport near Kannah Creek.
When: Wednesday
Who: six people ( two inmates, a deputy and a pilot. ); (pilot Tom Haefeli and passenger John Haefeli)
Why: The planes collided in midair; the sheriff’s plane with the inmates aboard made it to the airport and managed a hard landing at 9:48 a.m, with front end damage. The other landed safely in sagebrush ten miles shy of the airport at about 9:30 a.m.. Some of those aboard were taken to a fire station in Whitewater Colorado. Pilot Tom Haefeli is quoted as saying “All of a sudden, there was an airplane headed for us. We tried to dive under him and they just clipped us and took our vertical stabilizer off.”The cause is under investigation and the FAA will look into weather, pilot error, tower air controllers, and flight plan. No one was injured.
Cessna Emergency Landing in Tuntutuliak

Where: Fifteen miles from the Yup’ik village of Tuntutuliak, 40 miles from the Bering Sea Coast
When: Wednesday November 18th, 2009
Who: pilot and 7 passengers
Why: While en route, the engine lost oil pressure, then the single engine seized up. The pilot made an emergency landing in a dry lake bed, where those on board stayed together and inside to keep warm in the 6 degree below zero weather. A public safety person and volunteers in snowshoes and a snowmobile from the village hiked to the crash site and towed the some of the passengers, including two babies, to the village in a homemade sled; others were provided snow shoes. They defrosted in the village before returning to Bethel on to two Yute Air planes.
