What: Cessna 310 en route from Mendez Airport, Ciudad Victoria, to Nuevo Laredo, Teamaulipas, Mexico Where: Mexico When: October 21, 2008 1710 central daylight time Who: The pilot and the 4 passenger Why: The Cessna experienced a loss of power on takeoff from Pedro J. Mendez Airport, Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico. When the pilot attempted to return to the airport, the Cessna impacted level desert terrain 45 degrees off to the right of the side of the departure end of the runway.
The pilot and the 4 passengers were fatally injured.

On November 2nd, 2013, the two Skydive Superior Cessnas (Cessna A185F Skywagon #WN94059, Cessna 182 #N6068Y) were flying over Wisconsin when one flew into another, forcing eleven people into emergency mode. Two pilots and nine skydivers made it to the ground alive, though part of the plane was described as breaking off into a fireball of burning debris that the skydivers had to avoid while they were coming down. The nine skydivers had been planning a tandem jump.
The Skywagon encountered wake turbulence, which lead to the collision and breakup of the lead aircraft.
Four jumpers were aboard the lead plane that broke apart.
One plane broke up and burned; the other pilot managed to land. The pilot of one plane used his emergency parachute and was injured enough on landing that he was hospitalized. The other managed to land at the airport, albeit with a broken wing and propeller.
The FAA is investigating.

What: American Eagle Canadair CRJ-700 en route from Nashville, TN to New York, NY Where: Raleigh Durham When: Jan 3rd 2012 Who: n/a Why: Two phones found in the lavatory prompted the pilot to divert to Raleigh Durham.
A passenger who claimed the phones later was removed from the plane and taken custody by the FBI.
What: Air France Boeing 777-200 en route from Houston,TX to Paris Where: Houston When: Jan 3rd 2012 Who: 228 passengers and 15 crew Why: While en route from Houston, a phone was found aboard. Pilots returned to Houston, where the flight underwent a security check.
The flight landed safely in Paris after a five hour delay.

What: de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver Where: Buss Lake Canada When: June 30, 2011 Who: 3 fatalities Why: The pilot issued a distress beacon at 1:45 pm in a very remote location in Saskatchewan. The flight was apparently a fishing expedition.
The plane was spotted in the lake by a pilot who was flying by and heard the signal, and reported the location to Canadian Forces Base Trenton in Ontario, who sent a Hercules aircraft from 435 Squadron in Winnipeg.
The Hercules was able to land after dropping a chainsaw to rescue techs to clear the brush.
The float plan crashed in Buss Lake, Saskatchewan. All three aboard, including the pilot, died in the crash. Two search and rescue team members are on site but the cause of the crash is unknown.

What: Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd Mil Mi-172 en route from Gauhati to Tawang India Where: Tawang India When: April 19, 2011, 13:57 Who: 23 aboard, 17 fatalities Why: The Pawan Hans helicopter Captain Varun Gupta and Captain A. K. Tiwari was flying was approaching the helipad to land in Arunachal Pradesh when it struck a wall, broke into pieces, burst into flame and fell down into a gorge by the helipad.
Six survived, three of whom are critical. All—two crew members and four passengers who survived —are badly burned.
The deceased were identified as Mrs Anita, A Baruah, Dr Tendon, Dr Asif, Mrs R Asif, Mrs Jahara, Ms Asif, Master Asif, Mr A Sharma, A K Saraugi, Ms N Botha, Col Sharma, Mr W Bhatia, Mr T Mustafa, second pilot captain Tiwari, flight attendant A Dixit and assistant maintenance engineer S B Kulkarni.
Survivors include Captain Varun Gupta, Randiv Kumar Chaturvedi, Dorjee Wangdi, Rishi Bothra, Rajendra Pal and Mrs Karishma Saraugi.
The injured were taken to Tawang hospital and on the 20th will be air-lifted to Guwahati.
This was a regular flight to Tawang from the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, and the helicopter has a valid certificate of airworthiness.
The DGCA speculates the chopper crashed was “likely” due to wind shear and down draft.

What: Virgin Blue Boeing 737-800 en route from Launceston to Sydney Where: Launceston When: Aug 20th 2009 Who: 151 passengers Why: Shortly after takeoff, passengers heard a “bang” and flames were seen from an engine. The plane circled Launceston for thirty minutes before being cleared to land, which it did, safely. The problem was described as an “engine surge.” Passengers debarked and were provided an alternative plane to take them to Launceston.

A small plane crashed near Fairbanks, Alaska, on May 27th.
The single-engine plane was carrying two people when it went down approximately 50 miles east of Fairbanks.
Both occupants of the plane were killed in the accident. They were identified as Sam Richard Brice, 81, of Fairbanks, and Howard A. “Buzz” Otis, 63, of North Pole, Alaska.
The incident is being investigated.
