    Loganair Flight Makes Emergency Landing at Sumburgh Airport

    LoganairLoganair flight BE6780 had to make an emergency landing at Sumburgh airport in Scotland, United Kingdom, on December 23.

    According to the airline, “Flight BE6780 carrying 46 passengers and three crew declared a mayday shortly before landing in Sumburgh last night… The captain received a fire caution indication from the port-side engine, which was shut down as is standard operating procedure… Passengers were briefed by the crew ahead of landing and the aircraft touched down safely.”

    All the passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    The Saab 2000 was flying from Aberdeen at the time.

    American Airlines Emergency Landing (and Bankruptcy)

    What: American Airlines Boeing 767-200 flight from New York City to San Francisco
    Where: Buffalo Niagara International Airport
    When: Nov 27, 2011
    Who: 713 passengers
    Why: After having taken off from JFK, the flight developed smoke in the cockpit.

    Pilots diverted to Buffalo, where they made a safe landing. No injuries were reported.

    American Airlines routed another plane in to pick up the passengers. In the meantime, passengers were put up overnight in a hotel.

    On an unrelated note, the CEO of American Airlines, CEO Gerard Arpey, stepped down. After a meeting in NY on Monday, the company is filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Operations of the airline will continue as usual, and frequent fliers will not be affected. However, some jobs will be cut. American Eagle also filed for bankruptcy, delaying its spin off from American.

    Hawaiian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Honolulu

    Hawaiian Airlines flight HA-177 made an emergency landing in Honolulu, Hawaii, on July 12th.

    The Boeing 717-200 plane was flying from Kona, Hawaii, when the crew noticed engine vibrations and decided to shut down the left engine.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. There were eighty-nine passengers aboard at the time; one of them was injured.

    IndiGo Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    IndiGo flight 6E-832 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Varanasi, India, on August 30th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Kolkata to Jaipur, India, was diverted due to a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Iran Aseman Airlines Flight Returns to Tehran due to Landing Gear Problem

    Iran Aseman Airlines flight EP-3710 had to return and make an emergency landing at Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran, Iran, on January 2nd.

    The Boeing 737-400 plane took off for Ardabil, Iran, but had to turn back after the crew noticed an issue with the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and twenty-seven people aboard remained unharmed.

    Florida Ultralight Lands Safely

    Who: pilot Kurt Pfister, 46, and passenger as Katie Kuss were not injured
    Why: The ultralight’s engine quit, and the plane made an emergency landing in the field. I the course of landing, the wheels struck power lines which took out electricity to ten homes; but the craft landed safely without injury to pilot or passenger
