    Delta Airlines Plane Diverts to Shannon Airport

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight DL-11 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on May 4th.

    The Boeing 767-400 plane, heading from London, United Kingdom, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, was diverted after the crew received indication of a possible issue with an exterior light.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Kuopio-Bound Finnair Flight Suffers Lightning Strike

    Finnair flight AY-507 suffered a lightning strike on the way to Kuopio, Finland, on July 18th.

    The incident happened when the Embraer ERJ-190 plane was flying from Helsinki, Finland.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Delta Landing in Atlanta Minus One Engine

    What: Delta Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-88 en route from Atlanta to Charlotte
    Where: Atlanta
    When: Nov 10th 2011
    Why: Delta flight took off normally but once in the air, the engine seems to have caught fire (according to passengers who heard an explosion and saw sparks.) No fire was officially reported.

    The right hand engine poured smoke into the cabin but no fire.

    Pilots were able to gain altitude to turn minus one engine, and to make a safe landing in Atlanta. Passengers disembarked, and were provided pizza and alternative flights. At least one passenger would have preferred alcohol to pizza.

    Finnair Flight Diverts to Oslo due to Cracked Windshield

    Finnair flight AY-1366 made an emergency landing in Oslo, Norway, on December 22nd.

    The plane heading from Manchester, England, to Helsinki, Finland, was diverted due to a cracked windshield.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Pilot Survives Small Plane Crash in Georgia

    A small Cirrus SR20 crash landed at Malcolm McKinnon Airport, St. Simons Island, Georgia, on August 22nd.

    The pilot onboard came out of the aircraft unharmed.

    The cause of the crash landing has not been reported.

    Iberia Flight Returns to Mexico City due to Landing Gear Problem

    Iberia flight IB-6402 had to return and make an emergency landing in Mexico City, Mexico, on July 18th.

    The Airbus A340-600 plane took off for Madrid, Spain, but had to turn back after the crew failed to retract the landing gear.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.
