    Air Berlin Plane Diverts to Germany due to Unusual Odor

    Air Berlin flight AB-7391 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Cologne Bonn Airport, Germany, on May 10th.

    The Airbus A330-200 flying from Dusseldorf, Germany, to San Francisco, California, diverted due to an unusual odor on board.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 184 people aboard remained unhurt.

    Air France Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Sao Paulo

    Air France flight AF-457 made an emergency landing in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on December 10th.

    The Boeing 777-300 plane took off for Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, but had to turn back due to issues with the speed indicators, autopilot and auto thrust.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Who: 100 passengers
    Why: The right engine failed. After circling the airport for forty minutes, the plain landed without further incident in Dayong.

    Southwest Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ohio

    southwest_airlines_logoThe Southwest Airlines flight 424, from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to Chicago Midway International Airport, had to divert and land in emergency at Port Columbus International Airport, Ohio, at 2 a.m. Central Time on July 23.

    The pilot decided to make an emergency landing after there was an indication of smoke in the forward cargo hold.

    The plane landed safely and slides were used to evacuate the 49 passengers on board. No one was hurt.

    The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Southwest Airlines has declared the plane out of service for inspection.

    An alternate was flight arranged for taking the passengers to their destination.

    Why: After takeoff, the flight returned to the airport, after developing smoke in the cabin. The plane landed safely.

    Maintenance traced the smoke to faulty lighting.
