Bogota-Bound Avianca Flight Encounters Hail

Avianca flight AV-8464 encountered hail on the way to Bogota, Colombia, on January 27th.

The Airbus A319-100 plane flying from Cali, Colombia, was descending toward Bogota when it suffered hail strike which caused damage to windshields and the radome.

The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

Avianca Airlines Flight Returns to Sao Paulo due to Smoke in Cockpit

Avianca Airlines flight O6-6304 had to return for an emergency landing in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on February 23rd.

The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Recife, Brazil, but had to turn back after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit.

The plane landed uneventfully. All 156 people aboard remained safe.

The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

Avianca Airlines Flight Encounters Severe Turbulence; 23 Injured

AviancaAvianca Airlines flight AV-965 had to make an emergency landing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 4th.

The Airbus A330-200 aircraft, flying from Lima, Peru, ran into severe turbulence that injured 23 people on-board.

The plane continued for a safe landing in Buenos Aires, where the injured were given medical aid. Authorities confirmed that 10 people were shifted to hospital for further treatment.

Avianca Jet Returns to San Salvador

AviancaAvianca airlines flight AV-929 returned and made an emergency landing in San Salvador, El Salvador, on November 19.

The Airbus A330-200 plane, heading to Lima, Peru, was diverted after the crew noticed a hydraulic problem.

The plane landed uneventfully and everyone aboard remains safe.

Authorities said the aircraft was cleared to take off again after maintenance.

Avianca Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing Without Front Wheels

UntitledAn Avianca Airlines Fokker 100 jet made an emergency landing in the Brazilian capital city Brasilia, as its front landing gear stopped working.

The plane, carrying 49 passengers, was en route from Petrolina to Brasilia airport on March 28. The pilot requested emergency landing protocol as his attempt to lower the plane’s front landing gear failed.

Media sources report that the pilot kept flying the passenger jet around the city, in order to shed the weight of extra fuel. The plane then safely landed on its rear wheels, while the fire crew foamed it to avoid a friction fire when its nose touched the runway.

All the passengers and crew members were evacuated safely.

Emergency Diversion in Brazil

An Avianca Brazil Airbus A318-100 en route from Porto Alegre to Sao Paulo had taken off from Porto Alegre’s runway 11 when the plane developed problems with the hydraulics system.

After burning off fuel, the pilots returned to Porto Alegre and made a safe landing.

El Dorado Airport: Avianca Airbus Skids off Runway


Avianca Airbus A318 en route from Bogota to Armenia-El Edén Airport was taking off when it veered right with its nose gear mired in the soft ground.

El Dorado Airport crews responded to the scene. The accident occurred during taxi prior to taking off. Flight 9847 had been scheduled to depart at 2:15 pm Saturday in Bogota to Armenia.

There were 83 people aboard the plane at the time of the incident, none of whom were injured.

Passengers were provided an alternative flight.

Impaired Passenger Threatens Cockpit

Why: The flight was en route when a disruptive passenger disturbed the flight, attempting to breach the cockpit. He was restrained by fellow passengers.

After landing at Jose Maria Cordova the disruptive passenger was taken into custody. The passenger’s identity was not confirmed.
