    Microlight Crashes on Carters Beach, 2 fatalities

    On Jan 30, 2012, a Micro Aviation Bantam B22S that took off from Westport Airport with two aboard went missing Wednesday. The plane was found on Jan 31, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. on Carters Beach, near Westport. The two local men aged 58 and 25, who were aboard did not survive.

    The bodies of the two men aboard were found beside the plane.

    A dense sea fog descended at 9 pm when the plane had been aloft and may have been instrumental in the cause of the accident. Locals heard two loud bangs but don’t know if the sound was connected to the accident. The wreckage is not far from the airport.

    Peter Ashby father of the crash victim Cole, 25, found the wreckage of the plane carrying his son and pilot Roger Smith, 58. Cole was found dead about a kilometre away, swept away by the tide.

    Cole was a machine operator at Stockton opencast mine who enjoyed “motocross, snowboarding, wakeboarding, skiing, drift cars.”

    The accident is under investigation.

    Iran Air Boeing Crashes in Terman village

    What: Iran Air Boeing 727-200 en route from Tehran Mehrabad to Uromiyeh
    Where: Uromiyeh Iran
    When: Jan 9th 2011 7:45pm
    Who: 94 passengers and 12 crew (alternately reported as 93 passengers and 11 crew)
    Why: The weather was foggy and it was snowing. While on final approach to Urmia Airport runway 21 the crew had to perform a go-around, but five miles from the airport struck the mountainous area of Terman village.

    The Deputy Minister of Roads and Transportation reported this as a crash during a forced landing outside the airport.

    The impact shattered the plane. 33 were rescued by emergency responders and hospitalized. 73 bodies were recovered, including all 12 crew members. There are 77 confirmed dead (currently), 42 of whom have been identified.

    Helicopter Crashed in Germiston, SA; 2 Killed

    helicopterA small helicopter crashed and caught fire near Rand Airport in Germiston, South Africa, on the afternoon of September 25.

    Two people, including a man and a woman, were killed in the accident.

    The helicopter belonged to MiX Telematics Africa. The company’s managing director Brendan Horan said, “MiX Telematics are aware of the incident that took place this afternoon where we confirm that it was a Matrix vehicle tracking helicopter, operated by Henley Air, which has crashed.”

    The cause of crash is under investigation by the MiX Telematics and the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

    Canada Helicopter Crash

    On July 5, 2013 around 4 pm, a Heartland Transmission Project helicopter transporting equipment to a tower crashed near Fort Saskatchewan. When the helicopter grazed the 64 metre tower, the pilot lost control.

    One report says a worker fell from the helicopter but this has not been confirmed.

    Two men were aboard; they were both taken to University of Alberta hospital in serious condition. The lineman was airlifted.

    Transportation Safety Board and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety will be investigating, as well as the Heartland Transmission.Project.

    Turkish Airlines Jet Skids Off Runway at Kathmandu Airport

    Turkish airlinesA Turkish Airlines passenger jet, operating flight # TK726, skidded off the runway at Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 4.

    The accident happened in dense foggy conditions, when the Airbus A330, carrying 224 people, was coming from Istanbul, Turkey.

    The plane ended up on its nose and the passengers had to use emergency slides to exit.

    None of the passengers and crew members sustained serious injuries.

    Woman Dies in Venezuela Crash, Survivors Rescued

    On Feb 2, 2013, a privately owned Beechcraft 58 Baron with six aboard crashed in the Gulf of Cariaco, Venezuela.

    The flight had taken off from Puerto Ordaz Airport and was en route to DelCaribe Gen S Marino Airport but suffered a complete loss of engine power. The pilot declared an emergency due to failures in both engines.

    Fishermen found the plane located 15 nautical miles (28 km) east of Cumana in the Gulf of Cariaco.

    Two of the passengers were reported to be minors.

    There was one fatality, a sixty-two year old woman, Vetide Ramos, who died in the crash. Five survivors were brought ashore in a boat, including Ruben Herrera, Poztty Ramos, Jose Ramos, Ivan Herrera (a minor) and pilot Jhonatan Mata.
