    Air France Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Cameroon

    Air France flight AF-953 made an emergency landing in Douala, Cameroon, on November 28th.

    The Airbus A340-300 plane took off for Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Vueling: Engine problems and Bird Strike

    What: Vueling Airbus A320-200 en route from London to La Coruna
    Where: London
    When: Apr 23rd 2010
    Why: While en route, the plane indicated low engine oil pressure. The flight landed safely at Heathrow and was cancelled.

    What: Vueling Airbus A320-200 en route from Seville to Barcelona
    Where: Sevilla
    When: Apr 26 2010
    Why: After takeoff, the Vueling Airbus impacted a bird, which was ingested in the right engine. After the crew shut down the affected engine, they made a safe landing at Seville’s San Pablo Airport, where the Airbus was taken out of service for examination, maintenance and repairs. A replacement aircraft was flown in by Vueling for the passengers.

    Although both jets involved were Vueling Airbus A320-200, they were different jets, and neither problem had anything to do with volcanic ash.

    WestJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Greenland

    WestJetWestJet flight WS-4 made an emergency landing at Kangerlussuaq Airport, Greenland, on October 18th.

    The Boeing 767-300 plane heading from Gatwick Airport, England, to Toronto, Canada, was diverted after the crew noticed a failure in the avionics bay cooling system.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Ryanair Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Munich

    Ryanair flight FR-4164 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Munich, Germany, on April 4th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Frankfurt, Germany, to Corfu, Greece, was diverted after the crew received a wheel well fire indication.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    A330 and A340 Landing Gear Airworthiness Directive

    EASA Emergency AD No.: 2011-0122-E has been published limiting the life of A330 and A340 landing gear parts.

    During ground load test cycles on an A340-600 aeroplane, the MLG bogie beam prematurely fractured. The results of the investigation identified that this premature fracture was due to high tensile standing stress, resulting from dry fit axle assembly method. Improvement has been introduced subsequently with a grease fit axle assembly method.

    Air India Flight Diverts to Mumbai due to Engine Fire

    airindialogoAir India flight AI 997 had to make an emergency landing in Mumbai, India, on March 6.

    The plane, carrying more than 100 passengers, was en-route from Karippur International Airport in Kerala, India, to Sharjah, UAE, when one of its engines caught fire with a loud explosion.

    The pilot immediately diverted the plane to Mumbai, where it made an uneventful emergency landing. No one was injured.

    The airline arranged another aircraft which took the passengers to their destination.
