    Southwest NoseGear Collapse July 22 Update


    Investigators are still working to determine the problem why the landing gear of Southwest Airlines Flight 345 collapsed while the plane was landing in New York on Monday.

    Fatal Crash South of Lake Tahoe

    What: Piper Cherokee
    Where: crashed in trees two miles from Alpine County, Calif., airport, near Woodfords south of Lake Tahoe.
    When: late Thursday morning
    Who: Pilot 53-year-old Raymond Wieveg
    Why: Pilot radioed in engine failure then attempted an emergency landing. The pilot was the only one on board. He did not survive the crash.

    All Nippon Airways Flight Returns to Everett, WA

    All Nippon AirwaysAll Nippon Airways flight NH-9397 had to return for an emergency landing in Everett, Washington, on October 25th.

    The Boeing 787-900 plane took off for Tokyo, Japan, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    TAP Air Portugal Plane Suffers Bird Strike in Porto Santo

    TAP Air Portugal flight TP-1739 suffered a bird strike in Porto Santo, Portugal, on April 6th.

    The incident happened when the Airbus A319-100 plane flying from Lisbon, Portugal, was on approach to Porto Santo Airport.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Lufhansa Emergency Landing in Frankfurt

    What: Lufthansa Airbus A319-100 en route from Frankfurt/Main to Hamburg
    Where: Frankfurt
    When: Aug 10th 2011
    Why: After takeoff from Frankfort, the right engine made an explosive noise.

    The flight crew shut down the engine and diverted back to Frankfurt where they made a safe landing. No indication if fuel was dumped or emergency crew on standby. The problem has been initially attributed to either a fuel or air intake issue.

    EL Al Flight Returns to Ben Gurion Airport due to Engine Failure

    EL ALEl Al flight 29, en route from Tel Aviv, Israel to Ontario, Canada, returned to Ben Gurion Airport for emergency landing on the night of September 6.

    The Boeing 767 was diverted after one of its engines failed.

    The plane landed uneventfully and all 194 people aboard remained safe. The passengers were transferred to an alternate aircraft which took them to their destination.

    “We consider flight safety as the highest value,” said an El Al representative. The airline also said that the incident will be investigated.
