    Plane Returned to Philadelphia International Airport Due to Landing Gear Issues

    lufthansabombardierA Lufthansa flight returned and made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport due to issues with its landing gear.

    The plane took off for Frankfurt, Germany, at around 5:45 p.m. on June 15. However, shortly after take-off, it was noticed that the landing gear of the plane was stuck.

    The plane turned back toward Philadelphia, where it made an uneventful emergency landing after venting off extra fuel.

    Authorities confirmed that the plane safely touched the runway at around 7:45 p.m. and all crew members and 270 passengers aboard remained safe.

    Air Tanker Crashed Fighting Yosemite Wildfire; Pilot Killed

    wildfireAn air tanker, belonging to California Fire Department, crashed while fighting the Dog Rock Fire near Arch Rock in Yosemite National Park, northern California, on October 7.

    The Cal fire department confirmed that the single-seater S-2T aircraft went down at around 4:26 p.m. near an entrance to the Yosemite National Park.

    The pilot of the air tanker was killed in the accident. He was later identified as Geoffrey “Craig” Hunt, 62, of San Jose.

    Chief Ken Pimlott, Cal Fire director said, “We continue to mourn the tragic loss of Craig…We know wildland firefighting is an inherently dangerous job, but Craig made the ultimate sacrifice.”

    Who: 44 passengers, 4 crew
    Why: One engine apparently flamed out on approach. Another report said both engines flamed out and one was restarted. The CL-600-2B19 Regional jet made a safe landing on runway 11.

    Lufthansa Plane Makes Safe Landing After Multiple Bird Strikes

    Lufthansa flight LH-600 made a safe landing following bird strikes near Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, Iran, on April 8th.

    The Boeing 747-400 plane flying from Frankfurt, Germany, was on final approach to Tehran when it received multiple bird strikes.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Polar Air Cargo Plane Veers Off Runway at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport

    Polar Air Cargo flight PO-243 veered off runway after landing at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Kentucky, on October 20th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 747-400 freighter plane was coming from Anchorage, Alaska.

    The plane came to stop on soft ground. Everyone aboard remained uninjured.

    Five Lost in Military Chopper Collision

    What: USMC HMLA-469 Bell UH-1Y Venom
    Where: Yuma, AZ
    When: Feb 22, 2012, 8 pm
    Who: 5 aboard, 5 fatalities
    Why: The helicopter was engaged in night flight exercises on February 22nd near Yuma, AZ when it collided with a smaller two person chopper. Service members with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing were involved.

    The crash happened west of the Chocolate Mountains in California.

    The names of the five fatalities have not been released.
