What: United Airlines en route from New York City to Denver
Where: Lincoln, Nebraska
When: 5:45 p.m
Who: 140 passengers
Why: When the flight crew reported the smell of smoke in the cockpit, they made a cautionary landing in Lincoln Nebraska.
Wizz Air flight W6-4263 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Zagreb, Croatia, on September 15th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Nis, Serbia, to EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg, France, was diverted due to smoke in the cockpit.
The plane landed safely. Medical teams examined two passengers and a crew member after landing.

What: United Airlines Airbus A319-100 en route from Denver to Des Moines
Where: Omaha
When: Aug 10th 2010
Why: After take-off, the flight ran into weather.
The pilot diverted to Omaha, where they made a safe landing. However, on departure from Omaha, the plane developed engine vibration, and had to return to Omaha.
SunExpress Deutschland flight XG-2830 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Toulouse, France, on September 11th.
The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Fuerteventura, Spain, to Dusseldorf, Germany, was diverted after the crew received a cargo smoke indication.
The plane landed safely. All one hundred and ninety-two people aboard remained unharmed.
United Airlines flight 1188 had to turn back and make an emergency landing at San Francisco International Airport, California, on April 1.
Authorities said the Boeing 757-300 aircraft was en-route to Boston, Massachusetts, when the pilots sought permission to return due to a sick flight attendant.
The plane landed back uneventfully and the ill flight attendant was rushed to a nearby hospital.

What: Singapore Airlines Airbus A330-300 en route from Adelaideto Singapore
Where: Denpasar Indonesia
When: May 10th 2010
Why: While en route, the engine made a banging noise. The pilot shut down the affected engine, and tge flight immediately diverted to Denpasar where they made a safe landing.
No mention is made of how (or whether) the passengers got where they were going, nor of what exactly happened to the plane. (Does a plane make a banging noise when it blows a gasket?)

What: Swiss Airbus A340-300 en route from Miami to Zurich
Where: Atlantic Ocean
When: Jul 30th 2010
Who: 227 passengers
Why: Three/fourths of an hour out of Shannon, the flight developed various electrical problems with the circuit breakers affecting cabin lighting and the inflight entertainment system. With cabin lighting off, they diverted to Shannon, where the flight made a safe landing.
Passengers were provided alternative flights, albeit not on several different planes.
