    News Coverage of the Kazakhstan Crash that killed 21 Update


    The SCAT-owned Canadian-built Bombardier Challenger CRJ-200 # UP-CJ006 crashed in Kyzyl Tu village five miles from its Almaty airport destination.

    There was disagreement over the number of passengers (5 crew, 16 passengers)

    Grumman American AA-5 Traveler Totaled

    What: Steven Leigh Emerson’s Grumman American AA-5 Traveler
    Where: Yacolt, WAshington
    When: July 5, 2011, 10:40 a.m
    Who: Emerson Steven Leigh (owner) and passenger
    Why: Emerson Steven Leigh was flying his Grumman American AA-5 Traveler when it was totaled when it crashed in Washington. Leigh and his passenger were treated on the scene. The plane had clipped trees, before it crashed into the gravel pit. Fire District 3, North Country Emergency Medical Service, East County Fire and Rescue, Camas Fire Department and Clark County Sheriff’s Office responded. The two were extricated and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

    Neither man had serious injuries but the plane was totaled.

    National Guard Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in New York

    A New York Army National Guard helicopter made an emergency landing at the Chili Country Club in Scottsville, New York, on May 1st.

    The UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was on a routine training flight when its windshield cracked, prompting the pilot to declare an emergency.

    The helicopter landed safely on the ninth hole fairway. All 5 crew members aboard remained safe.

    American Airlines Flight Returns to Philadelphia After Bird Strike

    American Airlines flight AA-797 made an emergency landing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on November 17th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Los Angeles, California, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a bird strike.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Small Plane Crashed into Chautauqua County Woods; Pilot Injured

    A small plane crashed into woods near Waite Road in Sheridan, Chautauqua County, New York, at 11:30 A.M. on July 16.

    The single-engine Cessna 162 crashed while the pilot was trying to return to Chautauqua County/Dunkirk Airport, New York, after facing some mechanical issue.

    The pilot, identified as Francis Emmerling, 66, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries. It is believed that Emmerling was the only person aboard.

    The FAA and Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department are investigating.

    Hastings Plane Crash Updates

    TomHawkThe recent single engine Tomahawk PA38 crash in Hastings killed 46 year old Christopher Howell and 48 year old Christopher Rawlings.

    Rawlings, hailing from the Clive in the Hawke’s Bay region, was an instructor at the Hawk’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club.

    Howell, a fully qualified and trained pilot from UK, was flying the plane when it bursted into flames mid-air. According to Bruce Govenlock, president of Hawk’s Bay and East Coast Aero Club, Howell wanted to acquire a New Zealand license for getting employment there. He also had to appear for pilot’s validation exam later in the day.

    Govenlock also said that the last radio transmission from the plane did not show any sign of trouble. The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand is investigating the crash.
