    Azul Brazilian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Issue

    Azul Brazilian Airlines flight AD-5200 had to return and make an emergency landing at Viracopos International Airport, Brazil, on November 14th.

    The plane took off for Curitiba, Brazil, but had to turn back after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines due to the loss of oil pressure.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Helicopter Crash Kills Paraguayan Candidate, General and Hero

    On Feb 2, 2013, a Robinson R44 with four aboard was en route on the campaign trail from Concepcion to Asuncion when it crashed in bad weather, south of Concepcion Paraguay near Puerto Antequera, in the Chaco region.

    The pilot’s last message was at 9 p.m. local time, when he said that they were changing course due to a storm. The control tower then lost contact.

    The pilot, two body guards and Lino Oviedo, a presidential candidate was killed in the crash.

    A search arm of the national police rescue team found the burnt corpses of those aboard the plane on February 3rd, a day after they were reported missing and disappeared from radar. Troops of the Search and Rescue Service, composed of staff of the Air Force and the Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the search.

    Witnesses who saw the crash site said that the helicopter “disintegrated.”

    Oviedo was a retired general who assisted in overthrowing Alfredo Stroessner in 1989; he died on the anniversary of the coup.

    Canada: Cathay Pacific Airbus Bomb Hoax, Fighter Escort

    What: Cathay Pacific Airbus A340-300 en route from Hong Kong (China) to Vancouver,BC
    Where: Canada
    When: May 15th 2010
    Who: 280 passengers
    Why: While the flight was en route, the airline received a phone call that there was a bomb aboard. Over Canada, two Canadian CF-18 Hornet fighter jets escorted the flight to Vancouver where it landed safely and was taxied to a remote location.

    On examination, no bombs were found.

    Witnesses of the Dana Air Crash Recount What they Saw

    The Dana Air flight crashed into a suburb of Lagos on Sunday. All 153 people on board and an unknown number of residents on the ground were killed in the crash.

    Witnesses below talk about what they saw.

    Using cadaver dogs and cranes, emergency crews recovered 48 bodies. Local residents helped with spraying water on the fire, but after three hours, there was apparently no water to put it out.

    Passengers aboard the plane included four Chinese citizens, and two Lebanese citizens (identified as Nadim Chediac and Roger Awwad.) The pilot was reported to be American, and the co-pilot Indian.

    Plane Crashes at Greenville Downtown Airport; 2 Dead, 2 Injured

    A Dassault-Breguet Falcon 50 plane crashed at Greenville Downtown Airport in South Carolina, on September 27th.

    Authorities said the plane went off the runway after landing and crashed at the edge of Airport Road.

    Two people were killed in the crash, including the pilot and the co-pilot. Two others were injured and were taken to a hospital.

    The FAA and the NTSB are investigating.

    Chopper Makes Field Landing in Indiana

    What: Euro Copter EC 130 helicopter en route from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Indianapolis
    Where: Noblesville Hanbury Manor Boulevard near the Sagamore Golf Course
    When: Nov 3, 2011
    Who: pilot and 5 passengers
    Why: The pilot made a public statement that he was piloting his chopper and encountered severe weather. He made an emergency landing described as “controlled” in an Indiana corn field.

    After landing, when everyone aboard had vacated, the chopper caught fire. There were no injuries.

    The incident is under investigation by the NTSB and the FAA.
