    Bank executives, family, dog die in Crash on Interstate 287 Median on Jersey-Atlanta Flight


    What: Cool Stream Media LLC Socata TBM700 C2 en route from Teterboro airport to Atlanta-Dekalb Peachtree Airport
    Where: Interstate 287 in Harding, NJ
    When: Dec 20, 2011, 10 am.
    Who: 5 aboard, 5 fatalities
    Why: After taking off from Teterboro airport en route to Atlanta-Dekalb Peachtree Airport, the pilot inquired about icing conditions, and shortly afterwards, crashed on I-287 in New Jersey. The plane came down on the median and broke up just outside of Morris township. One witness heard nothing but saw an explosion. Another witness smelled burning rubber and said it sounded like a wood chopper.

    The plane lost contact with ATC just before the crash.

    Aboard the flight were Jerry Buckalew, 45 and Rakesh Chawla (36) managing directors of Greenhill & Co Investment Banking Firm. Buckalew’s wife Corinne and two children Jackson and Meriwether and a dog were also aboard. Witnesses say the plane was spinning and flipping, then a wing came off and the plane went straight down. Buckalew owned the plane.

    No cars were stuck but the plane’s right wing landed in a tree 400 yards from the crash site..

    The pilot had gotten clearance to climb to 17,500 feet. ATC said there was “moderate rime” at 17000 feet. Another controller warned of extreme icing.

    The debris field covered an area half a mile wide. The northbound late of I-287 was blocked a heap of burning charred metal.

    Qantas Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Sydney

    QantasQantas flight QF-1 had to return and make an emergency landing in Sydney, Australia, on August 3rd.

    The Airbus A380-800 plane took off for Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but had to return shortly afterwards after the crew reported a fault in cabin’s temperature control system.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Cessna Crashes by New Hampshire Runway

    What: Cessna T182T Turbo Skylane
    Where: WEST LEBANON, N.H.
    When: Feb 9, 2012, 3:45 p.m
    Who: pilot, 1 fatality
    Why: The Cessna T182T Turbo Skylane took off from Lebanon New Hampshire Municipal airport returning the plane from repairs  but developed problems. The pilot, Paul Schlieben, of Peterborough, N.H requested a turnback to the airport.

    He was returning to the airport when he crashed in the airport safety area impacting beside a runway. West Lebanon firefighters responded to the scene and put out the flames. The pilot did not survive the impact.

    Regional Express Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Adelaide

    Regional Express Airlines flight ZL-4768 made an emergency landing in Adelaide, Australia, on May 12th.

    The plane flying from Kingscote, Australia, was on final approach to Adelaide when the crew went around and reported a hydraulic issue.

    The plane subsequently landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Embraer Collision in Brazil Kills 4, Victims Identified

    What: Embraer (Neiva) EMB-711C Corisco en route from Aeroporto Campo dos Amarais, Campinas to Condomínio Aeronáutico Fazenda Bonanza, Sorocaba

    Where: Santa Bárbara D’Oeste , São Paulo
    When: August 18, 2012 9:30 a.m.
    Who: 2 aboard 2 fatalities
    2 aboard 2 fatalities
    Why: On a training flight, two Embraers collided. This plane crashed in a sugar cane field. Four people died in the crash on the edge of the Bandeirantes Highway.

    Azul Araken de Oliveira Salamene, pilot Cassiano Ricardo Callegaris, flight dispatcher Voninho Souza Aguiar, and Vandeir Fábio de Lima.

    Seripa (Serviços Regionais de Investigação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronáuticos) is investigating.

    A witness, Ricaro Paulo Silveira de Souza, said he saw a wing falling. Another witness, Julio Cesar Prestes, said he saw two planes falling from the sky.

    Both planes were taking off from the same airport and going to the same destination but left five minutes apart. On impact, there was an explosion.

    Four burned remains were recovered.

    Pilot Killed as Ultralight Plane Crashes in Australia

    An ultralight plane crashed south of Townsville, Queensland, Australia, on November 29.

    Authorities said the plane was taking off from an air strip in Woodstock when it experienced some difficulties and went down.

    The pilot, who was the only aboard, was killed in the crash.

    The incident is being investigated.
