    C-17 Lands at Tiny Davis Island Airport

    What: Air Force C-17 Globemaster III cargo jet en route from SW Asia to MacDill Air Force Base
    Where: Peter O. Knight Airport, Davis Island
    When: July 20, 2012
    Who: 23 passengers and 19 crew
    Why: The Globemaster III cargo jet landed on a runway that is 3,580 feet long and 100 feet wide rather than the 11,421 feet long and 151 feet wide runway at MacDill. The nose stopped six to 10 feet from the end of the runway. It took off again later with no problem.

    Malaysia Airlines Flight Rejects Takeoff From Shanghai

    Malaysia Airlines flight MH-387 had to reject takeoff from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, China, on October 21st.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane was accelerating to takeoff for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, when the crew rejected takeoff due to two burst tires.

    The plane slowed down safely.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    LGW Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Stuttgart, Germany

    Luftfahrtgesellschaft Walter (LGW) flight AB-8882 made an emergency landing in Stuttgart, Germany, on February 21st.

    The plane flying from Dusseldorf, Germany, to Florence, Italy, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Thomson Airways Flight Diverts to Bulgaria due to Medical Emergency

    Thomson Airways flight BY-1714 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Sofia, Bulgaria, on October 8th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Newcastle Airport, England, to Larnaca, Cyprus, was diverted after one of the pilots fell ill.

    The plane landed safely. The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital.

    American Airlines Flight Diverts to Denver due to Severe Turbulence

    American Airlines flight AA-1296 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Denver, Colorado, on February 27th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from San Diego, California, to Chicago, Illinois, was diverted after it was hit by severe turbulence.

    The plane landed safely. There were 166 passengers aboard at the time; 2 of them were taken to hospital.

    Singapore Flight Runway Excursion

    What: Singapore Airlines Boeing 747-400 freighter en route from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, to Singapore
    Where: Singapore
    When: Dec 2nd 2011
    Why: The freighter flight was landing on runway two, but drove off the runway.

    The excursion caused the runway closure for more than an hour, although the plane did not require towing. There were no injuries.
