Allegiant Air flight G4-736 had to divert and make an emergency landing at T. F. Green Airport in Providence, Kent County, Rhode Island, on December 30.
The McDonnell Douglas MD-83, flying from Orlando, Florida, to Bangor, Maine, had to divert due to smell of smoke.
The aircraft received minor damage due to heat.
All 120 people aboard remained safe.

Why: In flight, the left engine surged. The crew did not shut it down, but did reduce power; and the plane landed without injury with emergency crews on standby.
A Mahan Air plane crashed into a concrete barrier at Istanbul Atatürk Airport, Turkey, on December 24.
The Airbus A310 plane, performing flight W5-112 from Tehran, Iran, skidded off the runway and crashed into a concrete barrier.
There were 150 passengers aboard at the time; all of them were evacuated safely.
The cause of crash is under investigation.
Sunwing Airlines flight BY-5483 made an emergency landing in Sofia, Bulgaria, on June 21st.
The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Paphos, Cyprus, to Norwich, England, was diverted after smell of smoke was noticed on board.
The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
On June 24, 2013, a United Boeing 787 Houston to Denver flight developed an issue with the brakes (or brake indicator) and made an emergency landing. Details about the specific problem were not released.
The flight left Houston at 9.12am and arrived in in Houston at 11:58 a.m.
None of the 219 passengers and 13 crew members sustained any injury. Maintenance examined the plane. The plane was returned to service.
Stranded passengers were provided travel solutions by a Boeing field service representative.

What: Delta Airlines Airbus A320-200 en route from Detroit to Denver
Where: Lake Michigan
When: Feb 28 2010
Why: While en route, the left engine developed problems and was shut down. The flight returned to Denver and made a safe landing on the remaining engine.
Delta Airlines flight DL-589 had to return and make an emergency landing in Seattle, Washington, on February 19th.
The Boeing 767-300 plane took off for Shanghai, China, but had to turn back due to a lavatory maintenance problem.
The plane landed back safely. All one hundred and ninety-passengers aboard remained unharmed.
