    What: Delta Airlines Boeing 747-400 en route from Manila to Nagoya
    Where: Manila
    When: Dec 19th 2010
    Who: 300+ passengers and crew
    Why: After taking off for Detroit, the plane developed technical problems and the pilot returned to Manila where it made a safe landing with airport’s medical and Fire and Rescue teams on standby.

    After being in the air less than an hour, the pilot returned to land at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

    There were no injuries, but passengers complained of waiting long hours for travel solutions to being stranded. The exact nature of the technical problem of the plane was not released.

    JetBlue Plane Diverts to South Dakota after Mid-Air Turbulence

    JetBlueJetBlue flight 429 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Sioux Falls Regional Airport, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on August 11th.

    The aircraft carrying 151 people from Massachusetts to Sacramento, California, was mid-air when it encountered severe turbulence, prompting the plane to divert.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    At least 20 passengers sustained injuries.

    The injured were taken to hospital.

    KLM Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Amsterdam

    KLM flight KL-1838 had to make an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on December 18th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Vienna, Austria, was on final approach when the crew reported a flaps problem.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 173 people aboard remained safe.

    What: GOL Transportes Aereos Boeing 737-800 en route from Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo
    Where: Sao Paulo
    When: Feb 6th 2012
    Why: On approach to Sao Paulo, the plane developed problems with the plane’s hydraulic systems. After making a safe landing, the plane was stuck on the runway. Eventually the plane was towed, and the patient passengers were able to disembark (after half an hour.)

    BA Flight Diverts to Belfast International Airport

    British airwaysBritish Airways flight BA1421 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Belfast International Airport in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on October 27.

    The plane took off from George Best Belfast City Airport and was heading to Heathrow Airport, London, when the pilot declared emergency. According to an airline spokesperson, “The flight landed normally after diverting shortly after take off as a precaution following a technical issue.”

    There were 108 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.

    Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Wayne County Field

    tangerinefieldA small plane made an emergency landing in a field in Macedon, Wayne County, New York, on January 21.

    The Cessna plane was en-route from New Bedford, Massachusetts, to Rochester, New York, when its carburetor froze up, forcing the pilot to land in a small backyard field area.

    There were two people aboard at the time, including the pilot Jeremiah Coholan and passenger Richard Medeiros; both of them remained unhurt.
