JetBlue Plane Diverts to South Dakota after Mid-Air Turbulence
JetBlue flight 429 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Sioux Falls Regional Airport, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on August 11th.
The aircraft carrying 151 people from Massachusetts to Sacramento, California, was mid-air when it encountered severe turbulence, prompting the plane to divert.
The plane landed uneventfully.
At least 20 passengers sustained injuries.
The injured were taken to hospital.

The plane crashed in mud and swampland in Blue Cypress Conservation area; the crash site is north of State Road 60 and east of Florida’s Turnpike, between Fellsmere and Yeehaw Junction, on land owned by the St. John’s River Water Management District. The rural area is home to venomous snakes and alligators, making recovery more difficult.
Carly was a student pilot, and not allowed to take passengers.
The plane apparently nosedived engine deep into the mud, splitting the fuselage behind the cockpit. The plane was lost on Thursday, reported Thursday at 11, and not found till Friday. Cell tower analysis helped to determine the location.
A crane will probably be used to recover the wreckage. An airboat was used to reach the site, and hikers were wearing waist-high boots. The NTSB is investigating.

A small plane crash-landed near the runway of Georgetown-Scott County Airport, Georgetown, Kentucky, on the night of August 1.
The the twin-engine Beechcraft King Air plane was attempting an emergency landing when it crash-landed. All 4 people aboard sustained injuries and were taken to hospitals.
The injured were identified as the pilot Mark Conrad and his pasengers Ron Absher, Aaron Conrad and Jonathan Absher.
The FAA is investigating.

What: Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300ER en route from Hong Kong to Los Angeles Where: Anchorage When: Nov 22, 2012 Who: 288 passengers and 18 crew Why: While en route, the Cathay Pacific developed a pressurization problem and had to make an emergency landing in Alaska. There were no injuries. When the pressurization problem developed, oxygen masks were deployed.
Cathay Pacific and the Civil Aviation Department will be investigating.
Passengers were provided hotel accommodations and an alternative flight.
The cause of the pressurization problem is speculated to be a malfunctioning valve in the air system

What: PIA Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A310-300 en route from from Karachi Pakista) to Dhaka Bangladesh Where: Karachi When: Feb 2 2010 Why: A couple of hours into the flight (20 minutes away from the destination), the crew detected a hydraulic issue with the landing gear. After announcing they were diverting to Dhaka, they instead returned to Karachi for repairs. The choice of Karachi was made due to superior facilities for repair, at least as compared to what was available in Dhaka.
Passengers disembarked and boarded another plane.
Pakistan’s sports team (Pakistan boxing, table tennis, swimming and a martial arts team) were aboard en route to the South Asian Games.
At least 350 game participants left Karachi in at least 6 flights.

Delta Airlines flight DL-2785 made a safe landing following bird strikes near Salt Lake City, Utah, on August 27th.
The Boeing 757-200 plane flying from John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, was on final approach to Salt Lake City International Airport when it suffered bird strikes.
The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
