    Lufthansa Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Tel Aviv

    Lufthansa flight LH-695 had to return and make an emergency landing in Tel Aviv, Israel, on September 21st.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane took off for Frankfurt, Germany, but had to turn back due to an engine failure.

    The plane landed back safely. All one hundred and sixty people aboard remained unharmed.

    Flybe Plane Returns to Southampton Airport after Bird Strike

    flybeA Flybe flight had to return and make an emergency landing at Southampton airport, United Kingdom, on January 3.

    The Embraer E175 plane took off for Alicante, Spain, but had to return shortly afterwards after a bird hit it, causing damage to the propeller.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All 83 passengers remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged an alternate plane for the passengers.

    Piedmont Emergency Landing in Philadelphia

    What: Piedmont Airlines flight en route from Allentown to Philadelphia
    Where: Philadelphia International Airport
    When: Sunday morning 11-16
    Who: 38 passengers and crew
    Why: On approach, the crew got an indication the nose gear was not down. The plane slid down the runway on its nose. Fire crews foamed the runway and there was neither smoke nor fire.

    Qatar Airways Plane Diverts to Goa After Captain Falls Ill

    Qatar Airways flight QR-507 made an emergency landing in Goa, India, on November 11th.

    The Airbus A321-200 plane heading from Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Doha, Qatar, was diverted after the captain fell ill.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All one hundred and thirty passengers and nine crew members remained safe.

    Generator Failure Takes Down Delta Plane

    What: Delta Boeing 767-300 en route from Atlanta to Paris, France.
    Where: GSP Airport
    When: September 10, 2009
    Who: h 213 passengers and 11 crew
    Why: Nearly an hour into the flight, the plane had problems with the on board generator. The plane landed at GSP airport without event, and passengers debarked at 2:30 am. No injuries were reported; fire and emergency crews were on standby.

    This is a generator. Why is this something the pilot lucked into in mid-flight? This is what maintenance crews are for. When do they get serviced, only after they stop working?

    What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 en route from New York to Los Angeles
    Where: Chicago on Mar 16th 2010
    When: Mar 16th 2010
    Why: While en route, the right hydraulics system failed. The flight diverted to Chicago and made a safe landing. Passengers were rescheduled.
