    What: Kingfisher Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-500 en route from Bangalore to Hyderabad
    Where: Bangalore airport
    When: Jan 16, 2011 8:26 a.m.
    Who: 27 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: After taking off an hour late due to bad weather, the plane immediately developed a problem in its right engine. A fire warning alerted the pilot.

    The pilot reported to ATC and returned to make a safe landing at Bangalore airport after ten minutes aloft. Anther plane is being scheduled for the passengers.

    US Passenger Plane Crash-Lands in Iraq

    A US passenger plane crash-landed in a field near Erbil in Kurdistan, Iraq, on March 5th.

    Authorities said the plane was forced to land in the field due to technical failure.

    There were four passengers aboard at the time; none of them were harmed.

    Around 30 US soldiers responded and sealed off the scene.

    Wings Abadi Plane Veers off Runway in Indonesia due to Rain

    Wings Abadi flight IW-1896 veered off the runway at Achmad Yani International Airport, Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia, on December 25th.

    The Avions de Transport Regional ATR-72-212A flying from Bandung landed safely on the runway but veered off and came to a stop with its right main gear collapsed.

    The aircraft received substantial damage.

    No injuries were reported.

    What: Katekavia Antonov 24RV passenger jet en route from Krasnoyarsk to Igarka
    Where: Eastern Siberia
    When: August 2 2010
    Who: 3 crew and 11 passengers (also listed as 5 crew 10 passengers)
    Why: 700 meters from the landing at Igarka, the plane the plane veered to right and crashed before the runway, in bad weather conditions. (Night time landing, thunderstorms, limited visibility) 11 fatalities have been reported. The plane shattered and caught fire.

    Three crew members and one passengers were hospitalized initially–the only ones pulled alive from the plane– but now only 3 crew members remain fighting for their lives.

    Turkish Airlines Airbus Lightning strike, Engine Fire

    On January 25, 2013, a Turkish Airlines Airbus A321-231 with 114 aboard en route from Istanbul-Atatürk was on approach to Izmir Turkey when the plane is reported to have suffered an engine fire in the right engine.

    A report is circulating that the plane was struck by lightning.

    Many of the passengers were reported to be in a panic, saying the plane was vibrating the whole flight, describe the loud noise of the strike, and also the smell of burning

    The pilot made a safe landing on one engine.

    Alabama Plane Crash Under Investigation

    The seventeen year old student pilot who took off with two friends on a late-night flight New Year’s Day 2013(10:30 p.m. Tuesday) and crashed in north Alabama, killing everyone aboard was not following regulations at the time of the crash.

    17-year-old Jordan Seth Montgomery and 19-year-old Brandon Tyler Ary, both of Arley were passengers aboard the plane.

    A student pilot “may not act as pilot in command of an aircraft that is carrying a passenger.” Student Pilot Jordan Ryan Smith was one test away from his pilot’s license, according to family members.

    The airport says the student pilot was flying a plane he wasn’t rated on, without permission, in overcast weather.

    The NTSB investigation is ongoing.
