Manila: Plane Crashes Neighborhood, Warehouse

What: Victoria Air Douglas C-47B Skytrain freighter en route from Manila to Palawan/ Puerto Princesa, Philippines
Where: Villa Fidela subdivision in Las Pinas; abandoned warehouse
When: Oct 17th 2009
Who: 4 on board (7?)
Why: After takeoff, the crew reported a mayday situation. After reporting engine trouble, they were returning to the airport. Witnesses say that the airplane began to “wobble” (roll left and right). The pilot was approaching runway 6 when plane lost altitude, went down in Villa Fidela subdivision in Elias Aldana village and struck a house and a warehouse. 14 houses were damaged and four on board were killed. Two houses by the warehouse caught on fire. The manifest states that 7 were on board but that is unconfirmed.

The Victoria plane had been on a test flight. The same plane had encountered trouble at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) runway three weeks ago when its brakes failed.

Published reports identify the dead as Jaguar Huane, flight captain and co-owner of the plane; Benjamin Rivera (another Victoria Pilot), Richard Sinaya, and a “Mr. Cedingan.”

    Air Force Jet Crashes in Western Ecuador; 2 Killed

    An air force jet crashed near the airport in Salinas in Santa Elena, western Ecuador, on March 18.

    The accident happened at around 7:40 a.m. when the FAE 026 aircraft was on a training flight.

    Both people aboard the plane were killed in the crash.

    President Rafael Correa expressed his grief on Twitter, saying, “Training plane T34 had an accident in Salinas. Captain E and Cadet R died. The Fatherland mourns them. Our love to the families.”

    The crash is under investigation.

    Icelandair Boeing Emergency Landing in London

    What: Icelandair Boeing 757-200 en route from Paris to Reykjavik
    Where: emergency landing at Gatwick in London
    When: Jun 4th 2009
    Who: 148 passengers
    Why: The engine made a loud noise and the crew declared an emergency, and shut down the engine. After the emergency landing in London, passengers waited for substitute Icelandair and Iceland Express planes to take them on to Reykjavik, while some returned to Paris.

    What: AeroHorizontes Escuela de Vuelo Cessna 150G
    Where: Maica Area Chica, behind Jorge Wilstermann Airport, Cochabamba Bolivia
    When: August 27 2010
    Who: Two fatalities: pilot/instructor José Gonzalo Grosveger Zegarra and passenger/student José Ignacio Guzmán
    Why: During this instruction flight, the student was practicing “touch and go” maneuvers when the plane crashed. The school’s operations could be suspended pending investigation.

    SkyJet Plane Overruns Runway at Busuanga Airport, Philippines

    SkyJet Airlines flight M8-717 overran the end of the runway at Busuanga Airport, Philippines, on June 8th.

    The incident happened when the plane was coming from Manila, Philippines.

    The plane came to stop on soft ground.

    All eighty passengers and six crew members remained uninjured.

    GoAir Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ahmedabad

    GoAir flight G8-532 had to return and make an emergency landing in Ahmedabad, India, on February 6th.

    The Airbus A320-200N plane took off for Kolkata, India, but had to turn back due to engine vibrations.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
