    Thomson Airways Boeing Grounded after Bird Strike

    A Thomson Airways Boeing 787-8 sustained a bird strike on a Manchester—Cardiff—Shannon flight on the Cardiff-Shannon leg.

    On taking off from Cardiff, the bird strike occurred. The pilot reported that all systems appeared operational. Pilots continued to Shannon and made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.

    On the ground, the flight did not need to be towed but continued under its own power.

    Maintenance did confirm evidence of damage in the jet’s right side engine. The training flight was cancelled and crews worked on the damaged engine.

    This is listed as a training flight of a recently delivered jet.

    Scandinavian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lulea, Sweden

    Scandinavian Airlines flight SK-1049 made an emergency landing in Lulea, Sweden, on September 28th.

    The Boeing 737-600 plane heading from Kiruna to Stockholm, Sweden, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    AA Flight Diverts to Indianapolis Due to Unruly Passenger

    american airlinesAmerican Airlines Flight 1284 had to make an emergency landing at Indianapolis International Airport, Indiana, on September 14.

    Authorities said the plane, en-route from Miami to Chicago, was diverted due to an unruly passenger. It is believed that 25-year-old Daniela Velez-Reyes, of Chicago, hit a passenger and a flight attendant.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    Daniela was arrested while the plane was cleared to take off again.

    Cessna Nails Emergency Landing on Florida Highway

    Why: While en route, the engine began running rough. The pilot diverted to Tallahassee, but did not reach the airport. The pilot had to make an emergency landing on the highway due to a “mechanical failure” using car headlights to orient the landing.     Saudi Arabian Airlines Jet Makes Emergency Landing Due to Technical Failure

    Saudi Arabian AirlinesSaudi Arabian Airlines flight 060 had to make an emergency landing in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 3.

    The Boeing 777 was heading from Toronto, Canada to Riyadh when the pilot requested an emergency landing due to technical failure.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 301 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    The airline arranged a replacement aircraft for the passengers.

    Delta Airlines Plane Returns to Amsterdam after Engine Shut Down

    The Boeing 747-400, en-route to Atlanta, Georgia, had to make an emergency landing when the crew had to shut an engine down due to low oil pressure.

    The plane returned safely after dumping fuel.

    No injuries were reported.
