Ethiopian Airlines Plane Diverts to Ireland due to Engine Shut Down

Ethiopian airlinesEthiopian Airlines flight ETH-500 had to make an emergency landing at Dublin Airport, Ireland, on the morning of October 23.

The Boeing 787-800 flying from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Washington DC, had to divert due to an engine problem. The crew decided to shut down an engine mid-air.

The plane landed safely after dumping thousands of litres of fuel.

No injuries were reported.

Delta Airlines Plane Returns to Amsterdam after Engine Shut Down

250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airline flight DL-73 had to return to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands, on September 22.

The Boeing 747-400, en-route to Atlanta, Georgia, had to make an emergency landing when the crew had to shut an engine down due to low oil pressure.

The plane returned safely after dumping fuel.

No injuries were reported.

Atlas Dreamliner Emergency Landing at Paine Field

The Atlas Air Boeing 747 en route from Everett to Japan had taken off when the hydraulics failed. When the nose gear doors failed, pilots did a fly by and returned to the airport.

The 747 is retrofitted to carry Dreamliner parts, and dubbed a “dreamlifter.”

The flight departed from Paine Field at 3 pm.

The flight made a safe landing.

Boeing Diverts to Shannon

On Feb 8 2013, a United Boeing 777 was en route from London to Los Angeles when pilots reported that there was smoke the cockpit.

Pilots dumped fuel and diverted to Shannon airport in Ireland.

None of the 182 passengers or ten crew was injured.

They landed with emergency services on standby.

I wasn’t aboard this flight. But I take this flight all the time on business trips going and coming. There is one a day from London, direct.

I’m always glad to hear of a safe landing.

Fed Ex Plane Lands with Tire Missing

What: FedEx ATR-42-300 en route from Minneapolis/St Paul to Duluth
Where: Duluth
When: Sept 29, 2012
Who: crew
Why: A Fed Ex flight landed safely at Duluth International Airport on one tire.

The flight circled the airport for an hour before making a safe landing minus a tire. The tire went missing somewhere en route and did a flyby to confirm before circling and eventually landing.

The event is under investigation.
