Los Angeles International Airport conducted a full-scale plane crash simulation on April 13th.
The two-hour drill, which was conducted to test the emergency response time, used a Boeing 777 plane that crashed and caught fire in a debris field.
Around 500 emergency personnel, including firefighters, participated in the exercise, while 150 volunteers acted as crash victims.
An ultralight plane offered for sale crashed during its test flight at Lowell Airport, Vergennes Township, near Lowell, Michigan, at about 11:30 a.m. on August 24.
Kent County sheriff’s Sgt. Russ Larson confirmed that a New Mexico man who was taking the test flight in the aircraft owned by a local resident, was killed in the crash. He was identified as Bryan Bowker, 67, of Edgewood.
Authorities said that the plane successfully took off and landed once but crashed during a second take off attempt. Jeff Ostrander, who runs a flight school at Lowell Airport, said, “He had been doing some practicing with the aircraft, taxing up and down the runway to become familiar with the ground handling characteristics…I think what probably happened is a narrow dynamic stall where in the wing is held at such angle to the wind that no longer provides normal lift and airplanes do not fly in that condition.”
The FAA is investigating the crash.
JetBlue flight B6-838 made a safe landing following a bird strike near John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York, on August 13th.
The Airbus A320-200 plane was flying from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, when a bird hit it.
The plane continued for a safe landing. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

What: Secure Aviation Inc Piper PA-31-310 Navajo C

Why: After having engine problems, a pilot quietly landed his twin-engine Piper Navajo on the beach south of the Palm Beach jetty. He said “The plane didn’t want to run anymore, so it landed.”
The pilot was not injured but the plane suffered some damage and will have to be dismantled to be removed from the beach.
The 1974 plane is registered to Secure Aviation, 10218 SE Banyan Way in Tequesta.
Two miles off shore of Waikiki, a US Coast Guard MH65 Dolphin was hit by a laser pointer. The pilot had to make an emergency landing at Barbers Point Air Station in Hawaii. A flight mechanic and rescue swimmer were aboard the helicopter when it had to divert back to the base.
The crew was sent to have their eyes checked and are temporarily off-duty.
It is a federal crime to aim a laser pointer at an aircraft.

Why: Scotland Yard took Delta pilot George LaPerle from his plane.
He was so drunk…(how drunk was he? Five times the pilots legal limit, that’s how drunk.) He was so drunk, he thought his Detroit flight was bound for New York. With him at the controls, he wouldn’t have gotten out of Heathrow much less across the Atlantic.
LaPerle is suspended by Delta and will be going to court in the UK on Nov 16. Let’s hope for his sake he shows up sober, and already on his ten step plan.

What: Thomson Boeing 737-800 en route from Lanzarote to Newcastle

Who: 189 passengers
Why: It was snowing when the plane landed at Newcastle, and due to pavement conditions, the plane overran the runway. Passengers disembarked via stairs on the runway and were taken by bus to the terminal. Apparently no one was injured, but anyone who has been a passenger in a hydroplaning vehicle can sympathize with the passengers fear.
