    Border Protection Chopper Fired-on Near Texas-Mexico Border

    A U.S. Customs and Border Protection helicopter had to make an emergency landing in La Bota Ranch, Laredo, Texas, on June 5.

    According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesperson, “The helicopter was impacted by gunfire, hitting the side of the aircraft and the rotor blade… The pilot was able to make a safe landing, there were no injuries.”

    The FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, USCBP, Laredo Police Department and Texas Rangers responded to the area.

    The incident is being investigated.

    Delta Flight Lands in Emergency at Mitchell International Airport

    250px-Delta_logo.svgDelta Airlines flight 1496 from Minneapolis St. Paul airport to New York made an emergency landing at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at about 11:15 on July 26.

    The decision to make an emergency landing was made after a smoky odor was detected in the MD-88 which had 148 passengers and 5 crew members aboard.

    The plane landed safely and no one was hurt.

    According to the Delta spokeswoman, the passengers were provided an alternate flight in the afternoon.

    SpiceJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Ahmedabad, India

    SpiceJet flight 616 had to return and make an emergency landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, on February 23rd.

    The plane took off for Mumbai but had to return just 20 minutes later due to a technical glitch.

    The plane landed safely. There were 141 passengers aboard at the time; all of them remained unhurt.

    What: FlyBe de Havilland Dash 8-400 Paris’ Charles De Gaulle Airport to Cardiff
    Where: Gatwick
    When: Jul 24th 2009
    Who: 46 passengers and 4 crew
    Why: Twenty minutes after a haze filled the cabin of the Flybe jet, the plane made an emergency landing in London. No injuries were reported and the smoke has been attributed (so far) to a generic mechanical problem. The flight caused a dozen diversions and a dozen delays while the plane obstructed the runway.

    American Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Charlotte

    American Airlines flight AA-1965 had to return and make an emergency landing in Charlotte, North Carolina, on January 31st.

    The Airbus A330-200 plane took off for Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, but had to turn back after an electrical odor was noticed on-board.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    There were one hundred and eighty-three passengers and ten crew members aboard at the time. Authorities said all crew members were examined by medical teams at the airport, one crew member was subsequently taken to hospital.

    Aer Lingus Plane Diverts to Shannon Airport

    Aer LingusAer Lingus flight EI-495 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Shannon Airport, Ireland, on December 1st.

    The plane heading from Faro, Portugal, to Dublin, Ireland, was diverted after the crew received an indication of a hydraulic issue.

    The plane landed safely. All 102 passengers and 6 crew members remained unharmed.
