    Cessna Skids off the Runway at Brookneal/Campbell County Airport

    A plane skidded off the runway at Brookneal/Campbell County Airport in Virginia, on April 11.

    The airport officials confirmed that the incident happened when the twin engine Cessna was attempting an emergency landing after its door came open midair. The plane was en-route from Florida to New York at the time.

    The pilot, his wife and dog were onboard the plane. Authorities said only the pilot sustained minor injuries.

    The incident remains under investigation.

    U.S. Marine Corps Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Japan

    A U.S. Marine Corps helicopter made an emergency landing on Ikeijima island in Okinawa, Japan, on January 6th.

    Authorities said the crew decided to land in emergency after the UH-1Y helicopter experienced a rotor problem.

    All four crew members aboard remained unharmed.

    United Airlines Flight Diverts to Newark due to Engine Problem

    United Airlines flight UA-657 made an emergency landing in Newark, New Jersey, on October 23rd.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Texas, was diverted due to an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Jetstar Flight Diverts to Brisbane Due to Engine Problems

    downloadJetstar flight JQ 189 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, at around 10 a.m. on February 3.

    The plane was en-route from Gold Coast to Christchurch when it developed some engine problems.

    According to the airline, “The captain requested a priority landing and the aircraft landed without incident. We’re currently investigating. We will work to get customers on their way to Christchurch as soon as possible.”

    Where: southwest of Iceland
    When: Sep 19th 2009
    Who: 334 passengers
    Why: After finding an oil leak over Iceland, the plane returned to Frankfurt; an alternative flight was provided for passengers who arrived in NY after a delay of less than 10 hours.

    What: Egyptair Boeing 777-200 en route from London to Cairo
    Where: near London
    When: Sep 23rd 2009
    Who: 234 passengers
    Why: Due to an undisclosed technical failure, the flight returned to Heathrow. The flight was cancelled and passengers were provided accommodations.

    What: SAS Scandinavian Airlines Boeing 737-600 en route from Dusseldorf to Stockholm
    Where: Dusseldorf
    When: Sep 22nd 2009
    Why: The flight reported engine problems after takeoff. Passengers were rebooked on other flights. Unverified passenger quotations posted on the Aviation Safety net indicate the crew may have known ahead of time there were issues; and they were attempting to fly the plane back to its base for repairs.

    Germanwings Flight Rejects Takeoff due to Engine Failure

    Germanwings flight 4U-4099 had to reject takeoff from Palma, Majorca, Spain, on April 6th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane was accelerating to take off for Dortmund, Germany, when one of the engines emitted a loud bang. The crew subsequently rejected take off and safely returned to the apron.

    All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
