    Cessna Emergency Landing in Tuntutuliak

    What: Yute Air Cessna 207 air taxi
    Where: Fifteen miles from the Yup’ik village of Tuntutuliak, 40 miles from the Bering Sea Coast
    When: Wednesday November 18th, 2009
    Who: pilot and 7 passengers
    Why: While en route, the engine lost oil pressure, then the single engine seized up. The pilot made an emergency landing in a dry lake bed, where those on board stayed together and inside to keep warm in the 6 degree below zero weather. A public safety person and volunteers in snowshoes and a snowmobile from the village hiked to the crash site and towed the some of the passengers, including two babies, to the village in a homemade sled; others were provided snow shoes. They defrosted in the village before returning to Bethel on to two Yute Air planes.

    Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Atlanta due to Engine Issue

    Delta Airlines flight DL-2239 had to return and make an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 10th.

    The plane took off for Charleston, South Carolina, but had to turn back due to an engine problem.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Salt Lake City-Bound Delta Airlines Flight Returns to Atlanta

    Delta Airlines flight DL-2109 made an emergency landing in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 30th.

    The Boeing 737-900 plane took off for Salt Lake City, Utah, but had to return shortly afterwards due to vibrations on the airframe.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Aeroflot Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Engine Fire Indication

    Aeroflot flight SU-1490 had to make an emergency landing in Salekhard, Russia, on June 13th.

    The plane flying from Moscow, Russia, was descending toward Salekhard when the crew requested emergency assistance due to an engine fire indication.

    The plane landed safely. There were forty-two people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    United Airlines Plane Diverts to Las Vegas

    new-united-logoUnited Airlines flight UA-1469 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 26th.

    The Boeing 777-200 plane flying from Los Angeles, California, to Newark, New Jersey, was diverted due to smell of smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 269 people aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.

    U.S. Airways Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Strange Odor

    US AirwaysU.S. Airways flight 706 en route from Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina to Germany returned for emergency landing shortly after taking off on August 18.

    The plane was returned to Charlotte after the crew reported a strange odor on board. The plane touched down on the runway uneventfully at around 10 p.m.

    Eleven passengers fell sick because of the smell. Seven of them were treated at the airport and 4 others were taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening conditions.

    The cause of the smell is not yet known.

    The passengers were provided an alternate plane to resume their journey.
