    Providence-Bound Southwest Airlines Plane Suffers Lightning Strike

    Southwest Airlines flight WN-1498 suffered a lightning strike near Providence, Rhode Island, on February 15th.

    The incident happened when the Boeing 737-800 plane flying from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was descending toward Providence.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Zenair Crash in Italy


    On Feb 17, 2013 at 16:30, a Zenair which took off from Montemelino crashed in Castelvieto, Corciano Italy. Simone Masci and his companion Monica were aboard, and died in the crash less than a minute after taking off, on fire.

    The police did not find witnesses to the crash. Currently investigators say the cause could be anything from mechanical failure to the illness of the pilot to wind shear.

    Biplane Crashes in Santa Rosa California

    On April 20, 2013, a Boeing A75N1 Stearman took off from Petaluma airport and lost power at 2,000 feet before making a hard landing in a Santa Rosa vineyard near 6500 Jamison Road. Witnesses heard a plane flying low around 10 a.m..

    The pilot, Patrick Bell, circled looking for a place to land before finding the vineyard.

    The pilot was able to exit the plane under his own steam and although the plane flipped, Bell was uninjured.

    Allegiant Flight Returns to Lansing Airport due to Compression Issues

    AllegiantAllegiant Air Flight 657, had to return and make an emergency landing at Capital Region International Airport in Lansing, Michigan, on August 7.

    The Boeing MD-80 aircraft, carrying 166 passengers, took off for Orlando’s Sanford International Airport at about 11:42 a.m. However, immediately after taking off, a compression problem was discovered.

    The plane was then turned back towards Lansing where it made a safe emergency landing at about 11:58 a.m. Airport spokeswoman Nicole Noll-Williams said, “Because it was a compression issue, it was a normal response for our public safety department to be prepared for an emergency landing.”

    The passengers were safely evacuated and the aircraft was taken for maintenance.

    Small Plane Crashes Near Cape Blanco; Pilot Killed

    A small plane crashed on a beach near Cape Blanco, Oregon, on January 13th.

    It is believed that the pilot suffered a medical issue before the single-engine plane went down.

    The pilot’s identity has not yet been released.

    The cause of crash is being investigated.

    Cessna Crashes into Shed at Melbourne International Airport

    A Cessna Skymaster 337F aircraft crashed into a communications antenna shed at Melbourne International Airport in Florida, on May 27.

    Authorities said the pilot Christopher Hall, 57, was drunk when he steered his plane into the shed.

    There were two people, including the pilot and his pre-teen son, aboard the plane; none of them was seriously injured.

    The pilot was charged with child abuse without great harm and reckless operation of a vessel.

    The police and the FAA are investigating.
