    Allegiant Plane Diverts to Tennessee due to Sensor Malfunction

    Allegiant flight G4-676 had to divert and make an emergency landing at McGhee Tyson Airport, Tennessee, on April 30th.

    The McDonnell Douglas MD-83 flying from Orlando Sanford, Florida, to Flint, Michigan, had to divert due to a sensor malfunction.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 150 passengers and 6 crew members remained unhurt.

    MD-82 Wing Tip Strike

    What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82 en route from Dallas Ft. Worth to Charlotte,NC
    Where: Charlotte

    Who: 110 people on board
    Why: The flight was a normal flight.

    The plane landed with the left main gear off the runway and struck the right wing tip while turning back onto the runway centerline.

    The flight received a late landing clearance about 2nm before touch down. On approach, the controller advised the crew of “a significant deviation.”

    The crew to disengaged autopilot and compensated for the deviation with a manual landing, landing with the left main gear off runway. The plane suffered only a (right) right wing tip strike while turning to the runway centerline and taxied normally to the gate.

    Visibility was poor.

    Norwegian Air Shuttle Flight Diverts to Amsterdam due to Cargo Smoke Indication

    Norwegian Air Shuttle flight DY-4314 made an emergency landing in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on January 30th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Paris Orly Airport, France, to Stockholm, Sweden, was diverted after the crew received a cargo smoke indication.

    The plane landed safely. Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Eurowings Plane Makes Emergency Landing due to Smoke on Flight Deck

    EurowingsEurowings flight 4U-78 made an emergency landing at Cologne Bonn Airport, Germany, on June 12th.

    The plane was heading to Leipzig, Germany, when smoke was noticed on the flight deck, prompting the crew to turn back.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Fire Alarm over Grand Forks; Safe Landing

    What: Allegiant Air McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Grand Forks to Las Vegas

    Why: Not long after takeoff, fire detectors went off aboard the flight. The crew entered a holding pattern over Grand Forks, then made a safe landing about half an hour after takeoff.

    Bird Strike Damages American Airlines, Endangers Flight

    What: American Airlines MD-80 en route from Dallas/Fort Worth to Norfolk Virginia
    Where: DFW airport
    When: June 13 2011, 6:15 pm
    Who: 122 passengers and 5 crew
    Why: On takeoff from Dallas/ Fort Worth , Monday’s American Airlines flight struck a flock of (20+) pigeons, damaging the cone and right wing and requiring an emergency landing. The plane had to be taken out of service for repairs, and bird part extractions. Dead birds littered the runway.

    Birds can be a problem at the 29 square mile airport. Attached you can view a wildlife management news clip demonstrating a wildlife expert’s noise system used to disrupt the birds.
