    Flybe Flight Makes Emergency Landing due to Cracked Windshield

    Flybe flight BE-6300 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Jersey, Channel Islands, on October 2nd.

    The plane heading from Guernsey, Channel Islands, to Southampton, England, was diverted due to a cracked windshield.

    The plane landed uneventfully. Everyone aboard remained safe.

    Air Tanker Made Emergency Landing in Utah

    Air TankerA Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System aircraft belonging to the 153rd Airlift Wing of the Wyoming Air National Guard, made an emergency landing at Hill Air Force Base near Ogden, Utah, on August 17.

    The C-130 aircraft was on a fire fighting mission when the crew discovered a potential issue in the nose gear.

    The plane landed in emergency shortly before 1 p.m. The authorities confirmed that none of the 6 persons aboard were hurt, although fire was sparked in the aircraft during landing.

    The aircraft is one of two air tankers Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead recently initiated to fight fires in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and California.

    A statement released by the Hill Air Force Base stated that the air tanker had planned to refuel and resupply at the base. It also said more information will be released after investigation.

    Where: Louisville
    When: Dec 6th 2009
    Who: 53 on board
    Why: After takeoff, the crew reported elevator problems. The flight diverted to Louisville and landed safely.

    Quantas Autopilot Incident Spurs Part Safety Investigation


    What: Qantas Airways Airbus A330-300 en route from Perth in Western Australia to Singapore
    Where: Perth
    When: Saturday December 27,
    Who: The number of passengers and crew has not yet been released.
    Why: The autopilot on a Qantas Airways Airbus A330 suddenly disconnected 500 kilometres after taking off. The jet was cruising at 36,000 feet when the autopilot quit. The flight successfully turned and landed in Perth.

    This being the second autopilot fault, the situation is being investigated. A prior incident involving an on board system shutoff has been possibly attributed to communications interfering with aircraft onboard systems.

    The ADIRU (air data inertial reference unit) is the flight computer system component about which the crew received an error message during the Dec 27 incident.

    Barcelona-Bound Air Transat Flight Hits Turbulence; 5 Injured

    Air Transat flight TS-258 encountered turbulence on the way to Barcelona, Spain, on September 27th.

    The Airbus A310-300 plane was flying from Montreal, Canada, when it hit turbulence that injured five people.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. One passenger was taken to a hospital.

    Florida Bird Strike

    What: US Airways Boeing 737 en route from Ft Lauderdale
    Where: Ft Lauderdale
    When: Dec 9 2010
    Why: Shortly after takeoff, the US Airways Boeing had a bird strike, and a fireball came out of one of the engines, and it was “blown out.” The plane returned safely to Ft. Lauderdale and landed. There were no injuries except for the bird.
