Cows Run over by MD-82 Jet

What: Aserca Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82 en route from Caracas to Santo Domingo
Where: Santo Domingo
When: Mar 7th 2012, 8:45
Who: 125 passengers and 6 crew
Why: While landing at Santo Domingo in Tachira, the plane struck a number of cows which were on the runway.

The cows were killed. Luis Anaya, owner of the pasture which is located north of the runway, was arrested. The fence was cut.

The plane was damaged and had to be towed off the runway.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Popular Power for Air and Water Transport (Mpptaa) launched an investigation.

Disgruntled passengers had already waited two hours to get on the plane and had no idea what was going on when the plane struck cows. Flight attendants immediately opened the emergency door to evacuate the jet. Passengers were frightened, shoving, trying to get out and jump down the slides that opened instantly.

The crew directed passengers to walk to the terminal.

    American Airlines Diversion


    On March 23, 2013, an American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 Newark-Dallas flight diverted to Dulles when the first officer got sick.

    There were 141 passengers aboard American Airlines 1589, who disembarked in Dulles and boarded another flight at 2:00 pm.

    The first officer was hospitalized.

    American Airlines Lands over Fuel Pump Issues

    What: American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-83 en route from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Pittsburgh,PA
    Where: near Dallas
    When: Nov 19th 2011
    Why: Just after take-off, the pilot switched the fuel supply from center fuel tank to main wing tanks and the right engine flamed out.

    Pilots returned to the airport and made a safe landing.

    Maintenance is investigating why operating pumps were working, yet failing to provide fuel to the right engine.

    American Airlines Emergency Landing

    Why: While en route, passengers detected smoke in the cabin. The pilots diverted to Moline where they made a safe landing.

    Allegiant Flight Diverts to Fort Wayne

    Allegiant Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD-82, en route from South Bend to Punta Gorda Florida with 149 passengers and five crew diverted to Fort Wayne Indiana and made a safe landing with emergency services on standby.

    Pilots diverted because of a warning light. Passengers were evacuated safely.

    An alternative flight was provided.
