Why: Mauricio Lustosa de Castro’s private plane was last heard from in a distress call in Bolivar. Following the distress call a search and rescue began around July 13, though the incident was deemed a fatal crash on July 11.

Missing Pilot Found and Lost Again.
The pilot who had been reported missing in our earlier report of a parachutist near Childersburg/Milton is named Marc Schrenker. When his windshield imploded, Shrenker parachuted out, leaving his unmanned plane on auto-pilot. (It crashed near Ft. Walton Beach.) He checked into a hotel under the name Jason Galoozis and slipped away to retrieve a motorcycle he’d stashed in a store room. The Childersburg police are looking for him. So is his soon to be ex-wife, AND the Securities Commission.

Chilean Helicopter Crash kills 13
What: Celco Constitución helicopter
Where: south-central Chile– in the Maule region about 185 miles south of Santiago
When: Feb 15
Who: Aboard were 12 firefighters, aged around 18 to 30, and the pilot,
Why: The firefighters had been on their way to put out a fire at a eucalyptus plantation when the helicopter crashed. There was a dense mist in the area and that there was light rain at the time of the crash.Celco is owned by Empresas Copec.
The number of deceased has been upgraded to 14.
Chopper Crash Kills 10
What: PT Nyaman Air Bell 412 Chopper chartered by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals en route from Manado Sulawesi Island in Indonesia to the Gosowong Mine
Where: Manado, Bitung, North Sulawesi
When: August 2, 2011, 2:30
Who: 10 aboard, (8 employees and 2 flight crew)
Why: The helicopter PK-FUG flown by pilot Edi Purnomo crashed into Mount Dua Saudara while en route. Nine aboard died in the crash, including two Australians, two South Africans and four Indonesians were passengers on the flight. The crew were Indonesian.
The flight was missing initially. Foggy weather hampered the search until it was finally found at 2 a m August 3, with one survivor, who died en route to the hospital. Work has been suspended at Newcrest’s Gosowong gold mine in North Sulawesi, Indonesia.The chopper took off at 4:26 a.m. and lost contact with ATC shortly after takeoff.
The chipper was a joint venture between Australia’s Newcrest Mining and Indonesian company Aneka Tambang.

Where: near Southwest Florida International Airport off Daniels Parkway near Gateway.
When: Saturday afternoon
Who: The pilot was the only person on board
Why: Pilot experienced engine trouble right after takeoff from Runway 6. He was airlifted by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital

What: Hendrick Gulfstream G150 en route to Key West
Where: Key West
When: Nov 1, 2011 7:58
Who: Rick and Laura Hendric, pilot and copilot
Why: On landing in Key West, the plane had no brakes and skidded off the safety area. Those on board had minor injuries and were taken to Lower Keys Medical Center. Rick Hendrick suffered a broken rib and shoulder.The NTSB is investigating.
