What: Centurion Air Cargo McDonnell Douglas MD-11 en route from Miami,FL to Manaus Brazil Where: Maiquetía Venezuela When: Sep 17 2010 9:09 am Who: 5 crew Why: While en route, hydraulic system (#3) failed. The crew diverted to “Simon Bolivar” Maiquetía International Airport where Operations Track and Field, Fire Aviation, Medical and Airport Security were deployed. The “Air Emergency Plan” (SAP) was activated and the plain made a safe landing with no injuries.
Maiquetía is near Caracas in the Vargas state of Venezuela.
What: Freight Runners Express Beech 1900C en route from Milwaukee,WI to Dayton,OH Where: Milwaukee When: Sep 16th 2010 Who: pilot Why: The approach to Dayton was aborted when the pilot received an unsafe gear message. The pilot returned to Milwaukee, and entered a holding pattern while pilot and ACC attempted to solve technical issues.
On landing in Milwaukee, the nose gear collapsed. The plane was damaged, but the pilot was unharmed.
What: Delta/Comair Canadair CRJ-100 en route from Columbus, OH to Minneapolis, MN Where: Dayton When: Sep 16 2010 Who: 50 aboard Why: After takeoff, the plane alerted that it developed engine problems. Pilots diverted the flight to Dayton, and made a safe landing.
A few hours later, passengers were provided an alternative flight to Minneapolis.
What: Armada Nacional Bolivariana Bell 212 Where: Playa Valdez port off Margarita Island Venezuela When: Sept 14 2010 Who: 7 aboard, 2 fatalities, 5 injuries Why: The Venezuelan military helicopter was engaged in rescuing 21 people aboard 2(?) small boats found adrift at sea. The helicopter had ferried doctors to a frigate, and after taking off from the frigate, collided with a navy research vessel,Armada Oceanógrafo BO-11, and fell into the ocean.
The co-pilot co-pilot, Lieutenant Junior Grade, Alfredo Marquez and a crew member were killed. The pilot, Lieutenant Erick Martínez Sandoval, Lieutenant Edil Martinez and 3 other crew members were injured. The crash is under investigation.
What: American Airlines Boeing 767-300 flight AA199 en route from Milan to New York Where: Shannon When: Sept 13 2010 Who: 167 passengers Why: While the plane was en route, a passenger was charging his cell phone, which started overheating, which set off the fire alarm in the lavatory. The flight diverted to Shannon, where it made a safe landing.
Fire crews at Shannon were on standby during the emergency landing. Airport aircraft maintenance company engineers examined the plane and discovered the melted phone.
What: Conviasa Aerospatiale ATR-42-300 en route from Puerto Ordaz to Porlamor Venezuela Where: Puerto Ordaz When: Sep 13 2010 Who: 51 aboard, 15 fatalities, 36 passengers and crew survived Why: After takeoff while 10 miles from Manuel Piar International Airport, the crew experienced “control problems” requiring a return to the airport. Between the Caribbean island of Margarita and Puerto Ordaz, the plane crashed. 36 survivors were recovered from the wreckage and taken to hospitals and the remains of 2 were recovered.
As of Sept 18, the number of dead has risen to 17. Conviasa is suspending flights for two weeks for safety assessments.
The pilot was Conviasa Ramiro Cardenas.

What: Iberia/Air Nostrum Canadair CRJ-200 en route from Madrid, to Valencia Where: Madrid When: Sep 13th 2010 Why: The plane had successfully taken off from Madrid, then received an alert and returned to Madrid where the crew made a safe landing.
Systems were repaired and the flight resumed an hour and a half later.
What: Claudio Rosset Tecnam P92-JS Where: Cima Tre Scarperi, Dolomiti di Sesto Italy When: Sept 11 2010 Who: pilot and passenger, both fatalities Why: The Dobbiaco tourist flight which took off at 11:50 a.m. crashed into the side of a mountain near the village of San Candido, in a remote and difficult to reach location. The wreckage is in a ravine Dolomites of Sesto, the border between Veneto and Alto Adige.. The plane is a complete write off.
Aboard were former deputy mayor of Pordenone Claudio Rosset and his partner Michael Marconi. Rosset had been piloting another plane which crashed in 2001.
What: Indian Air Force HAL Chetak/Alouette III en route from Kalaikunda to Bagdoghra Where: Sundarpahari area, Godda district, Jharkhand state When: Sept 11 2010 Who: 3 aboard, 3 fatalities Why: While en route in bad weather, the flight crashed in Sundarpahari near Sinharsi air base. Two pilots and a co pilot were killed. Weather is assumed to be the cause, but the IAF has ordered an inquiry .
What: Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-400 en route from London to Hong Kong Where: London When: Sep 11 2010 Why: After takeoff, the cabin did not pressurize. The pilot returned to London and made a safe landing and repairs.
What: PIA Pakistan International Airlines Boeing 747-300 en route from Karachi to Lahore Where: Karachi When: Sep 10th 2010 Who: 480 passengers Why: While en route, the plane’s engine ingested a bird.
The pilot returned the plane to Karachi where it made a safe landing. Passengers were provided an alternative flight at 8 pm
What: Wideroe de Havilland Dash 8-100 en route from Vardoe to Vadso Where: Kirkenes Norway When: Sep 7th 2010 Who: 28 passengers and 3 crew Why: While en route, the plane indicated low oil pressure in an engine and the engine was shut down. The flight diverted to Kirkenes where it made a safe landing. The problem was repaired within 3 hours and the flight resumed.
What: West Wind Where: Palmerola US military base When: September 06 2010 Who: Honduran President Porfirio Lobo Why: The plane called “West Wind” made an unplanned landing at the US military base in Palmerola (Soto Cano air base in Comayagua) when it developed technical problems at 8000 feet. An indicator light that flashed on board the West Wind jet that instigated the decision to land.
Lobo was flying to New Orleans to sign scholarship agreements to support the 50 best students from low-income families who graduate from high school will be sent on scholarship to good U.S. universities.
The plane is being checked out and the President may continue on a different plane.
What: Alrosa Mirny Air Tupolev TU-154M en route from Yakutia/Polyarny to Moscow Where: Komi republic, at the Izhma airport When: Sep 7th 2010 Who: 72 passengers, three children, nine crew members Why: Four hours into the flight, the plane suffered an on board power system failure. The plane suffered a complete failure of electrical power resulting in loss of navigation devices, fuel pumps and leaving the pilots with no knowledge of available fuel.
The pilot had to make an emergency immediate landing in the Komi republic, at the Izhma airport. The Izhma airport is normally used for helicopters in military operations, but it is a former 1200 meter airport runway. The plane overran the runway into a wooded area and was substantially damaged.
No passengers were hurt. They disembarked via slide in the forested area. The slide has seen better days. It is either third-hand, or has been used frequently.
The Komi Republic is arranging for transportation of passengers from Izhma to Ukhta (which is the nearest airport) by helicopter. On arrival in Ukhta, passengers will board a replacement flight and continue to Moscow
It appears that the carrier will leave the damaged plane where it sits, as it can not take off.

What an extraordinary feat to that plane safely. Imagine having no knowledge of how much fuel was left, or even if it would be accessible, with nowhere to land but on a helicopter landing strip, without power, with no way to brake. A harrowing ride, and some brilliant snap decisions on the part of the crew.
What: Turkish Airlines Airbus A320 en route from Ataturk to Antalya Where: Ataturk International Airport When: Sept 5 2010 15:25 p.m. local time Why: After a bird strike, the plane returned to the airport. Damage to the plane is unknown; but passengers were rerouted on an alternative flight.
What: Qantas Boeing 767-300 en route from Sydney to Manila Where: Sydney When: Sep 6th 2010 Who: 158 passengers Why: After receiving an “anti-skid fault emergency message” the flight returned to Sydney. Passengers had to wait for a replacement flight.
What: TAM Linhas Aereas Airbus A320-200 en route from Sao Paulo to Joao Pessoa Where: Belo Horizonte Brazil When: Sep 6th 2010 Who: 144 on board Why: While en route, a sick passenger tried to use an emergency door. The plane diverted to Belo Horizonte where the passenger was hospitalized with a nervous breakdown. The flight continued later.
Telecinco made a film about Spanair JK 5022. On 20 August 2008 at 14:45 CEST, a Spanair McDonnell Douglas MD-82 JK 5022, crashed on takeoff from Madrid’s Barajas Airport. The first half of the movie aired last Wednesday and now there’s a protest against the second half being shown next Wednesday because the courts have not ruled yet. Over 50,000 signatures have been collected by the association representing the families.
What: Buddha Air Aerospatiale ATR-42-300 en route from Bhairahawa to Kathmandu Where: Gautam Buddha Airport in Bhairahawa When: Sept 4 2010 Who: Captain Bhawana Pant, copilot S Rawal, two flight attendants and 4 passengers Why: The crew asked permission for an emergency landing after receiving an on board false indication. (The autopilot auto-initiated, and presented spontaneous error code.)
Nine minutes after taking off, the Buddah Air flight returned to Bhairahawa after the flight developed technical problems. The cause of the problem is under investigation.
What: (Registration pending) BE65 65 Queen Air (U-8F Seminole) Where: SAN CARLOS, CA When: Sept 2, 2010 1850 Who: 1 pilot, 2 passengers: 3 fatalities Why: The plane crashed under unknown circumstances submerged in water about a mile from the airport.
What: crop-dusting helicopter Where: SF Bay Area near the Municipal Airport in Salinas, Highway 101 south of Airport Boulevard When: September 3, 2010 Who: pilot Why: The pilot took off from Salinas Airport but became disoriented due to the fog, and lost control of the helicopter. No fatalities were reported.
What: Cessna 210 Centurion en route from Toluca to Huatulco Where: Huatulco in Oaxaca 500 metres from Huatulco airport When: Sept 3 2010 11:00 a.m. Who: 6 fatalities, including the pilot Raymundo Manzano , a local coffee grower, Guillermo Zavaleta and Juan Huerta, both members of President Felipe Calderón’s National Action Party, and mayor-elect Joaquin Cortes Why: The plane lost contact with ATC, and crashed on approach to the airport on encountering turbulence. Bad weather and possible pilot error are being investigated as possible causes.
The passengers were traveling to a training course for lawmakers.
