Where: Belo Horizonte Brazil
When: Sep 6th 2010
Who: 144 on board
Why: While en route, a sick passenger tried to use an emergency door. The plane diverted to Belo Horizonte where the passenger was hospitalized with a nervous breakdown. The flight continued later.

    Costly Mistake

    What: SAS Airbus 321 en route from London to Copenhagen
    Where: Heathrow airport
    Who: 175 passengers
    Why: The cart that crashed into an SAS plane at Heathrow caused £1 million worth in damage, all because driver Dennis Jackson had forgotten which vehicle he was driving when he drove a too tall vehicle under the plane’s too low tail. The SAS Airbus 321 impacted the rear of the craft near the fuel line and sliced through the plane. The plane was subsequently evacuated.

    Jackson’s employer Dnata gave him a written warning.

    It was, as one attorney said, an “expensive accident,” costing a fine of a week’s wages, £150(fees), £85 (costs) and £15 (victim surcharge).

    Turkish Airlines Flight Diverts to Ankara due to Cracked Windshield

    Turkish Airlines flight TK-392 had to divert for an emergency landing in Ankara, Turkey, on June 8th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Istanbul, Turkey, to Batumi, Georgia, was diverted due to a cracked windshield.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    10 Injured After American Airlines Plane Hits Turbulence

    American Airlines flight AA-759 encountered turbulence near Long Island, New York, on August 5th.

    The Airbus A330-300 plane flying from Athens, Greece, was descending toward Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, when it hit turbulence that injured ten people.

    The plane continued for a safe landing. The injured were taken to hospitals.

    What: ANA All Nippon Airways Airbus A320-200 en route from Osaka Itami to Sendai
    Where: Sendai
    When: Feb 5th 2012
    Who: 166 aboard
    Why: The Airbus was landing when a sudden gust of wind caused pilots to abort the landing, and leaving scrapes of white paint on the runway.

    While performing the go-around, the tail of the plane struck the runway. Pilots circled and made a second approach, which resulted in a safe landing.

    Damage to the underside of the tail was significant, and the bulkhead was also damaged The local weather service did not have any indication of wind, and the investigation is underway.

    United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Los Angeles

    United Airlines flight UA-459 made an emergency landing in Los Angeles, California, on December 1st.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane heading from Denver, Colorado, to San Diego, California, was diverted after the crew noticed a hydraulic leak.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.
