    Qantas A380 Jet Diverts to Perth International Airport

    QantasQantas flight QF2 had to divert and make an unscheduled landing at Perth International airport, Western Australia, on August 31.

    According to the airline, “While travelling to Sydney from Dubai, the pilots received an indication that there was a technical issue with the aircraft so they diverted to Perth to have the issue repaired by our engineering team before continuing on to Sydney…There was a technical issue with one of the fuel pumps. There was no emergency landing.”

    The 484-seater A380 jet landed safely and everyone aboard remained unhurt.

    CSA Czech Airlines Plane Diverts to Frankfurt

    CSACSA Czech Airlines flight OK-520 made an emergency landing in Frankfurt, Germany, on August 30th.

    The plane heading from Prague, Czech Republic, to Dusseldorf, Germany, was diverted after the crew needed to shut down one of the engines.

    The plane landed safely. All 55 passengers remained unhurt.

    Piper Crash at Memphis International Airport

    What: Piper PA32RT-300 en route from Lewisburg, West Virginia to Memphis
    Where: near the old National Guard site off Democrat Road, Memphis
    When: November 29, 2009, 4:15 p.m
    Who: 4 on board, one in critical condition
    Why: On approach to the runway, the plane landed 1500-2000 feet short of the runway and caught fire. No cause is given, but it is under investigation by the FAA. Co-owner Emmett O’Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.

    UPDATE
    The FAA confirms that O’Ryan was caught flying in 2007 in Olive Branch in an unsafe aircraft not meeting FAA standards. Records show the incident involved the same plane in this crash

    The injured were transported by ambulance to the hospital. Three are non-critical.

    Piloting the plane was businessman Emmett O’Ryan. Aboard was his daughter Ruth, his son Robert, and Robert’s friend Patrick Jenning.

    Where: Concepcion, Bolivia
    When: April 11, 2009
    Who: Pilot and 3 passengers
    Why: The cessna impacted terrain shortly after taking off from Concepcion Airport Concepcion, Bolivia.

    The certificated commercial pilot and three passengers, all Bolivian citizens, were fatally injured. Night visual conditions prevailed. The flight was operating on a visual flight rules flight plan from Concepcion to El Trompillo Airport (SLET), Santa Cruz, Bolivia.

    Burning Electrics Odor causes Alaska Airlines Diversion

    What: Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-800 en route from Las Vegas to Portland
    Where: Klamath Falls
    When: Jul 8 2010
    Who: 136 passengers
    Why: While en route, the passenger cabin developed a burning smell. The flight diverted to Klamath Falls where they made a safe landing. A replacement jet was provided for the passengers.

    American Airlines Flight Diverts to Milwaukee due to Possible Mechanical Issues

    American EagleAmerican Airlines flight 3232 had to make an emergency landing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on October 22nd.

    The plane flying from Chicago, Illinois, to Fargo, North Dakota, was diverted due to possible mechanical issues.

    The plane landed uneventfully. There were 50 passengers and 3 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained safe.
