    SkyWest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Buffalo

    SkyWest Airlines OO-4281 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Buffalo, New York, on August 12th.

    The plane heading from Detroit, Michigan, to Newburgh, New York, was diverted after the crew noticed smoke in the cockpit.

    The plane landed safely. All forty-five passengers and three crew members remained unharmed.

    VivaAerobus Plane Returns to Mexico due to Problem with Landing Gear

    VivaAerobus flight VB-2307 had to return and make an emergency landing at Mérida International Airport, Mérida, Mexico, on May 2nd.

    The Airbus A320-200 flying to Guadalajara, Mexico, had to return due to a problem with its landing gear.

    The plane landed safely.

    All 166 people aboard remained safe.

    UPS Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai

    UPS flight 5X-15 made an emergency landing in Mumbai, India, on March 8th.

    The Boeing 747-400 plane flying from Bangkok, Thailand, was descending toward Mumbai when the crew reported a hydraulic failure.

    The plane burst a tire during landing and became disabled on the runway.

    Everyone aboard remained unharmed.

    Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Caracas

    Aeropostal Alas de Venezuela flight VH-302 had to return and make an emergency landing in Caracas, Venezuela, on February 12th.

    The plane took off for Porlamar, Venezuela, but had to return shortly afterwards after one of the engines emitted flames and a loud bang.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Shanghai Airlines returns to Shanghai

    Where: Shanghai
    When: Aug 30 2010
    Who: 131 passengers
    Why: After takeoff, the air conditioning began smoking. Passengers were provided wet towels to breathe through to filter out the smoke; and oxygen masks were deployed, apparently unannounced. The smoke was dense enough to impair vision; and the crew attempted to use the fire extinguisher without success.

    The flight returned to Shanghai, where emergency vehicles were waiting; and the flight made a safe landing at 11:53 am.

    Most passengers were booked to Hong Kong on alternative flights.

    Sick Child Dies during Russian Flight

    What: Transaero Airlines Boeing 777-312 Moscow – Khabarovsk
    Where: Yemelyanovo International Airport
    When: Dec 13, 2012
    Who: 1 fatality
    Why: While en route, a five year old child, Jaroslav Zaripov who was suffering from cancer, became ill. The pilot dumped fuel in order to land.

    The pilot diverted to Krasnoyarsk but the child died as the plane was landing. He has a twin who is cancer free, and who had not yet been told his brother died.

    The West Siberian Transport Investigative Committee is investigating.
