    What: United Airlines Boeing 747-400 en route from Bangkok to Tokyo
    Where: Tokyo
    When: Oct 25th 2009
    Why: After a hard landing at Tokyo’s Narita Airport, passengers debarked safely. The UA Boeing was examined after landing and damage was found on the underside of the #4 engine cowling as well as markings on the runway.

    Jet Airways Hot Engine in Mumbai

    What: Jet Airways Boeing 737-800 en route from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
    Where: Mumbai
    When: May 28, 2012
    Who: 158 aboard
    Why: While en route, Jet Airways pilots had to shut down and engine and divert to Mumbai.

    One of the Boeing’s engines caught on fire.

    Pilots made a safe landing at Mumbai-Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. On the ground at the airport at 5:45 a.m., fire and smoke was reported coming from the left engine.

    Passengers evacuated at the nearest taxiway. Emergency services put out the engine fire in minutes.

    Hawaiian Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Oakland

    Hawaiian Airlines flight HA-37 made an emergency landing in Oakland, California, on October 22nd.

    The Airbus A321-200N plane heading from San Diego, California, to Kahului, Hawaii, was diverted after the crew received indication of an engine issue.

    The plane landed safely. All one hundred and seventy-eight passengers and seven crew members remained unharmed.

    Phoenix: Mesa Runway Incident

    What: Dehavilland DHC-8-202 en route from Guaymas, Mexico to Phoenix
    Where: Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport
    When: April 20, 2009
    Who: The captain, first officer, flight attendant, and 14 passengers
    Why: The plane struck a ground power unit with the right propeller while taxiing to parking. NO injuries were reported.

    What: Air India Airbus A320-200 en route from Kolkata to Chennai (India)
    Where: Kolkata
    When: Dec 11th 2009
    Who: 139 passengers
    Why: The flight had a successful take-off, but while en route, air conditioning problems developed. (This can also mean pressurization issues. Specifics were not indicated.)

    The flight returned to Kolkata and made a safe landing. A replacement plane was provided.

    KLM Plane makes Safe Landing in Netherlands after Escaping Drone

    KLMKLM flight KL-1286 made a safe landing at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Netherlands, on May 6th.

    The Boeing 737-800, en-route from Edinburgh, United Kingdom, was about to reach Amsterdam when the crew noticed a drone passing at a distance of around 30 meters to the left.

    The plane landed safely.

    No injuries were reported.

    The airport authorities could not spot any drone.
