    Bristow Chopper Makes Emergency Landing at Aberdeen Airport

    BristowA Bristow-operated offshore helicopter had to return and make an emergency landing at Aberdeen International Airport in Scotland, United Kingdom, on June 26.

    The company released a statement saying, “Bristow Helicopters Ltd can confirm that one of its helicopters requested priority landing at Aberdeen Airport today… A caution light falsely displayed causing the false alarm. The airport emergency services attended as per standard practice, but no assistance was required.”

    The aircraft safely landed at 1:40 p.m. There were 6 passengers and 2 crew members aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.

    Air New Zealand Flight Returns to Auckland After Lightning Strike

    Air New Zealand flight NZ-443 made an emergency landing in Auckland, New Zealand, on September 10th.

    The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Wellington, New Zealand, but had to turn back due to a lightning strike.

    The plane landed back safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    Who: 152 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: While over Athens, the plane incurred a bird strike. In Athens, a dismembered sea gull was found on the runway. The plane continued until unusual vibration of the engine made them decide to return to Athens. They had to burn off fuel.

    They made a safe landing.

    Southwest Airlines Plane Suffers In-Flight Engine Failure; 1 Killed

    On April 17th, a Southwest Airlines plane suffered an in-flight engine failure and got hit by debris from the damaged engine, shattering a passenger window and killing one passenger.

    The incident happened when the flight WN-1380 was heading from LaGuardia Airport, New York, to Dallas, Texas.

    The crew subsequently initiated an emergency descent and diverted to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    Passengers reported that the deceased passenger, identified as Jennifer Riordan, 43, was partially sucked out of the aircraft through the shattered window. She was pulled back in by fellow passengers.

    Southwest Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Seattle

    southwest_airlines_logoSouthwest Airlines flight WN-441 had to return and make an emergency landing in Seattle, Washington, on October 19th.

    The Boeing 737-300 plane took off for Phoenix, Arizona, but had to return shortly afterwards due to a cracked windshield.

    The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew members remained unharmed.

    The airline arranged a replacement plane for the passengers.

    Air Asia X Plane Diverts to Australia after Bird Strike

    Air Asia X flight D7-207 had to divert and make an emergency landing at Brisbane Airport, Queensland, Australia, on July 3rd.

    The Airbus A330-300 flying from Coolangatta, Australia, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, had to divert due to bird strike resulting in engine problems.

    The plane landed uneventfully.

    All 345 passengers and 14 crew members aboard remained safe.
