    EasyJet Airbus Diverts to France over Undisclosed Smoke

    What: Easyjet Airbus A320-200 en route from London Gatwick to Faro, Portugal
    Where: La Rochelle France
    When: Aug 19th 2009, 09:30 BST
    Who: 165 passengers and 6 crew
    Why: Over the Bay of Biscay, the flight crew detected the smell of something burning and declared an emergency. They diverted to La Rochelle France, where they landed safely. No injuries were reported. Passengers were provided an alternative Airbus six hours later although firefighters with heat sensitive cameras did not find a source for the smell. The Easyjet spokesman called it a ” a small electrical problem .”

    Air Tran Emergency Landing in Greenville

    What: AirTran Airways Boeing 717-200 en route from Charlotte to Atlanta
    Where: Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport
    When: May 4, 2011
    Who: 115 passengers, 5 crew
    Why: The flight took off as usual but while en route, the twin engine plane developed a problem in one engine, with the compressor stalling. The left engine had to be shut down.

    The flight diverted to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport where they made a safe landing.

    SunExpress Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Serbia

    SunExpress flight XQ-4879 had to divert and make an emergency landing in Belgrade, Serbia, on July 26th.

    The Boeing 737-800 plane heading from Stuttgart, Germany, to Hurghada, Egypt, was diverted after the crew received indication of smoke in the cabin.

    The plane landed uneventfully. All passengers and crew members remained safe.

    Atlas Air Jet Part Falls on Miami area Parking Lot

    What: Atlas Air Boeing 747-400 en route from Santiago to Miami,FL
    Where: Miami
    When: Feb 5 2010
    Why: On the final approach to the runway, a part fell from the plane on to the Miami International Mall parking lot.

    The part is described as a flap track fairing. The mechanisms for deploying the wing flaps is housed in flap track fairings.

    3 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured as a Small Plane Crashed in Southern Slovenia

    small planeA small Robin DR400 aircraft crashed, shortly after taking off from the Divaca sports airport in southern Slovenia on September 14.

    There were 4 people aboard the plane including the pilot. According to police spokesperson Anita Leskovec, “Three people were killed and one is in serious condition. We can’t confirm their identities yet.”

    The aircraft belonged to a local Aero club near Ljubljana.

    The cause of crash is under investigation.

    Jet Blue Turbulence in Fort Myers

    Where: Fort Myers
    When: Jul 10th 2009
    Who: 153 occupants
    Why: On approach to Fort Myers, the flight experienced turbulence that injured four passengers including a spinal fracture and broken ribs.
