On March 2, 2013, an Airbus A380 (flight 275) scheduled to fly from Narita International Airport to Paris aborted a takeoff on runway 34L at Tokyo-Narita. The takeoff was delayed because of a nose gear problem, and subsequently towed to the gate. After maintenance, the takeoff was rescheduled but aborted a second time because of the same trouble, canceling the flight. None of the 537 aboard were injured.

Where: Wilmington International Airport
When: Thursday night
Who: a passenger went into shock and passed out.

Why: While landing at Ekaterinburg while the runway was covered in ice, and although ATC informed the “that the runway condition was good and permitted a safe landing,” the plane did not respond to proper braking and overran the runway.Russian investigators are investigating.

Apparently Russian airport crews don’t bother to salt, plow or otherwise make their runways more safe. Or maybe this was just a particularly lazy crew.

Ultralight Plane Crash at Lowell Airport Kills a Man
An ultralight plane offered for sale crashed during its test flight at Lowell Airport, Vergennes Township, near Lowell, Michigan, at about 11:30 a.m. on August 24.Kent County sheriff’s Sgt. Russ Larson confirmed that a New Mexico man who was taking the test flight in the aircraft owned by a local resident, was killed in the crash. He was identified as Bryan Bowker, 67, of Edgewood.
Authorities said that the plane successfully took off and landed once but crashed during a second take off attempt. Jeff Ostrander, who runs a flight school at Lowell Airport, said, “He had been doing some practicing with the aircraft, taxing up and down the runway to become familiar with the ground handling characteristics…I think what probably happened is a narrow dynamic stall where in the wing is held at such angle to the wind that no longer provides normal lift and airplanes do not fly in that condition.”
The FAA is investigating the crash.

Air Canada Plane Returns to Puerto Rico due to Engine Issues
Air Canada flight AC-957 had to make an unscheduled landing in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on November 13th.The Airbus A320-200 plane took off for Toronto, Canada, but had to turn back due to engine issues.
The plane landed safely. There were 132 people aboard at the time; all of them remained unharmed.
