Brussels Airlines Plane Suffers Steering Failure After Landing in Brussels

Brussels Airlines suffered a nose wheel steering failure on landing in Brussels, Belgium, on January 12th.

The incident happened when the Airbus A320-200 plane was coming from Heathrow Airport, England.

The Airbus A330-200, en-route from Beijing, China, was on approach to Dubai when the crew reported they would not be able to employ its nose wheel steering.

The plane landed successfully. It was towed off the runway.

Delta Flight 5358 Lands in Emergency at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport

DeltaDelta Airlines flight 5358 had to make an emergency landing at Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport (XNA), at about 10:20 p.m. on June 12.

Airport director Kelly Johnson confirmed that the flight, which departed for Atlanta at about 9:20 a.m., was forced to return and make an emergency landing, after which, the aircraft lost the directional steering of its nose wheel.

He further said that all 50 passengers and 3 crew members aboard the plane were unharmed.

After landing, the pilots learned that one of the tires was flat.

Air France Airbus Flight Cancelled

On March 2, 2013, an Airbus A380 (flight 275) scheduled to fly from Narita International Airport to Paris aborted a takeoff on runway 34L at Tokyo-Narita. The takeoff was delayed because of a nose gear problem, and subsequently towed to the gate. After maintenance, the takeoff was rescheduled but aborted a second time because of the same trouble, canceling the flight. None of the 537 aboard were injured.

Where: Lima
When: Dec 5th 2011
Why: While en approach to the Lima airport, the plane lost nosewheel steering.

The flight made a safe landing but was stranded on the runway had had to be towed.

Why: While en route from Detroit, the Delta A320 made an emergency landing in Salt Lake City Utah. Braking and steering were affected, though details have not been released to the media.

Why: While en route from Chicago, the plane developed a hydraulic problem and returned to Chicago to make a safe landing. However, landing without nosewheel steering, the plane had to be towed. Passengers were provided alternative flights.

Air Canada Airbus Nose Gear Fails, Emergency Landing

Why: After takeoff, the flight sustained a hydraulic systems failure. The pilot circled to burn off fuel, then landed about an hour later with no further problems. The plane had to be towed to the gate.

Why: While en route, the plane’s nose gear became inoperable. The crew diverted to Kansas City where they made a safe landing due to hydraulic problems. Without nose gear steering, the plane had to be towed to the gate.

Passengers were provided an alternative flight.

Who: 138 passengers, 6 crew
Why: On departure from Granada, the Airbus suffered a failure in the nose wheel steering. The crew diverted to Sevilla and made a safe landing. The plane was towed. Maintenance determined that the problem developed as a result of hydraulic system failure.

Passengers were booked on alternative flights.

Where: over the Tasman Sea
When: Mar 13th 2010
Who: 99 passengers and 8 crew
Why: While en route, the crew received an indicator message that the hydraulics were down (a hydraulics warning light.) The flight was diverted to Auckland where they made a safe landing, even though nosewheel steering (undercarriage problem) is said to have been affected.

5 Fire Service/rescue trucks and ambulance staff were on stand by during the landing.

Passengers were provided overnight accommodations and booked on alternative flights.
